I am quite good with computers and built my last 3 gaming machines myself but I spent an entire day installing EVO and SBOYS3 yesterday. I did go on Pimax tech chat but all they could suggest was uninstalling/ reinstalling the software.
I’m very close to having this working now with Steam VR on MSFS 2024 store version but if I leave Pimax Play active it works but the graphics are very poor if I switch to EVO it immediately closes Steam VR and then I have no way to launch it except manually. If I launch it manually it cannot see my Dream Air SLAM. Runtime is set to Steam VR in Pimax Play.
I tried launching MSFS to see if that launched Steam VR but it doesn’t. There are no warnings showing in EVO or SBOYS3 so everything looks OK.
OpenPort needs to be enabled on EVO first. This will allow you to switch to the sboys3 driver.
Once you’ve switched to the sboys3 driver, simply launch SteamVR. You’ll notice that the headset icon looks different, which indicates that the sboys3 driver is running successfully.
If SteamVR isn’t detecting the headset, try reinstalling SteamVR first.
Mane suer you have the newest sboys3 driver.. i don’t think the first one from before evo was made work with evo.
make sure that the lin in the line wher you enable open port point to the sboys3 driver.. if it’s correct you can open sboys 3 by clicking the launch button there.
and control that Sboys3 driver is set to enable in it’s control pannel.. you aly need to click the install buttons in the sboys 3 drivers about section.
first open steam vr after sboys 3 driver is open. and the above are done.
Right had another attempt this evening to get this sorted out.
First I uninstalled Pimax and reinstalled Pimax Play, swapped runtime from Steam to open XR and had a flight in MSFS 2024. Perfect, no issues at all. I was able to use Steam VR as usual by launching Steam bought titles from the library so all is good. Steam VR is obviously not a problem in Pimax Play 2.0.3
I next installed EVO, switched to PP classic and powered up the Dream Air it came up as usual with not tracked so I pick it up and wave it about so the inside out tracking kicks in and it usually says “Pimax Dream Air” but it doesn’t, it now says “screen off” and the screen is off too. No SBOYS no Steam VR nothing just EVO installed and the screen is off in classic where it was working 10 minutes previously.
Switch to EVO put the link to SBOYS driver in and launch SBOYS from EVO which works fine, no error warnings in EVO or the driver but launch steam and guess what, it can’t see the headset.
EVO is the issue not SBOYS nor Steam VR.
I also notice my PC isn’t right after installing EVO. the mouse pointer is jerky and hesitant with short freezes and logging into EVO was difficult. getting 3 O’s where I only typed one for example. I took me 4 attempts to type my email and password both correctly. First three attempts I didn’t quite know why I couldn’t log in.
I am disappointed as I wanted to try SBOYS as an alternative to my usual setup but looks like I can’t right now.
Yep, not only me then. Just read a very long thread describing jerky mouse pointers and other issues in EVO. It’s getting uninstalled tomorrow. It just isn’t stable enough on my PC for me to consider persevering with it.
Make sure that you have the newest verion of evo.. the mous stutter thing i had with the first version but it was already solved by the next verion.
and when sboys driver are started the first time. you need to go the the rigth fan and click the install driver button. to install the steam driver.. just emntioning it ads you did not mention this in you post.
Hi yes and thanks but I have the latest EVO and I still have a mouse and keyboard issue.
Uninstall Evo and reinstall Pimax Play there’s no issue with either.
I already had Sboys running with no faults reported so yes I had loaded the latest driver.
Steam VR just cannot see the headset. As I can’t use it at the moment and given the issues with kb and mouse I have Uninstalled it and will carry on with good old PP
Uninstall evo and use 2.0.3. You have built your own pc’s so you should know that for some reason your system in it’s current state is not compatible with evo and you should stop messing around with it until you can get your system up to snuff. Maybe look in the log files. Try looking in event viewer. Windows version. Hardware specs. Drivers.
If you must persist I would start with completely removing SteamVR including all reg entries reboot and reinstall.
Hi already way ahead of you. Uninstalled EVO and reinstalled PP 2.0.3 unfortunately I now have a graphics issue that I didn’t have before. MSFS 2024 glass displays flashing and going in and out of focus, mountains too. Before I installed EVO all was superb in the sim, now I have a long road ahead just to figure out how to get back to my stable and awesome visuals.
That said I did not imagine my mouse and keyboard issue. It may be due to other factors on my system but uninstalling EVO cured it but left me with graphics issues, see my previous post.
I went through similar issues unrelated to yours with both EVO and the 2.0 betas. I went back to 1.43 then tried again with the next versions and got better results (no idea why). In fact I’ve been fighting with Nvidia sound drivers that are causing CTD’s and subsequently not using the sound drivers have created sound issues with my PCL. Sometimes solutions can be evasive and very frustrating.
Your graphics drivers are not affected by the EVO install. You can try reinstalling them. When you uninstall the evo make sure to get rid of the other programs related to it. I believe EVO only has one. I had to use “Uninstaller Pro” to remove all pimax then EVO seemed a lot better with the latest version. Get EVO running and don’t bother with Sboys right now and focus on having some funs with the headset.
I am frustrated like you. All I can say is don’t give up and don’t stop playing.
