Pimax,is there a way you could reduce the mura on the pimax 8kx?Also a black vertical line in the middle

Asgard’s Wrath and Phantom Ops work just fine for me on 8KX. Make sure you have the latest version of Revive installed. If that doesn’t fix it then, clearly there is something seriously wrong with your computer. Perhaps a failing component? It could also explain why your 3090 is underperforming. Try testing the 8KX on a new PC

I think he means the native pitool function to run oculus.

Rapid RMA is important. Delays are delays, but a horror story would be
Delay ; and then wait a month for a replacement. That’d create high waves surfing through the internet.

how’d you guess?

you mean this?

Yeah, placing this into your game.ini will make it work for the pimax.

In theory filing a ticket. I don’t know how rapid it actually would be once approved. PimaxUSA mentioned headsets sent to :us: warehouse that some will be sent to customers from there and others are there for “rapid RMA”

@SweViver another known game tweak to add into PE.

This is a good idea, Geforce Experience actually edits gane ini’s for you when optimizing games. PE shoukd do the same.

Usually the game needs to be launched at least ince before the ini files are created but then should be simple to edit.

i dont think its a failing component,do u use the latest pitool beta and firmware on the 8kx? i think it must be that… if i start phantom ops it goes to the start screen of the game en the the image goes crazy…

Hi John,
I sometimes get the same black line- for me it’s always in the upleft view.
Lately I’ve been getting weird black screens as well. It seems to happen mostly in an older VR game called “Aces High”. I THINK it mostly happens in 114hz upscale mode.
Could it be a firmware issue?

i think its a firmware problem,i hope…

Hello,

i received my 8KX yesterday and i have alot of mura on that too. Which is as you mentioned a real shame as the rest of the headset is really awesome (not counting the SMAS speakers, but i can use my headphones so that isnt a dealbreaker).

The clarity and sharpness, once dialed in properly, is truly great, “REZ Infinite” with the 8KX is razor-sharp and a showcase what this headset is capable of.

But any head movement in brighter screen areas makes the mura jump out almost immidately, completely destroying the immersion. Its all over the place, like looking through a dirty window mounted on my head. Or slighly rippled glas. Its so bad that i’m seriously thinking of going back to my 5K+ atm.

Mura - there are two possibilities here. Either you have a background that shows this exceptionally well and you know how to look for it (Elite Dangerous sky can be a good test), or you have a defective unit. Lone Echo seems to me the kind of game that might have such scenes.

Black vertical line exactly in the middle of the screen? Just one eye, or both? If just one eye, probably a hardware problem. If both, definitely a software problem.

I also had quite visible Mura with my 8kX. At least when looking at a white background, like a browser or editor window in Virtual Desktop it was pretty obvious, otherwise it wasn’t too disturbing. Additionally I got image problems in 118 Hz upscale mode.
Initially the Pimax support meant that they can reduce or fix both problems with software updates.
Got a few experimental firmwares. With the 114 Hz fix we got the image and persistence problems under control, but Mura remained. In the end Pimax decided that they want to have my 8kX for diagnostic purposes to understand what’s going on. So I sent it back and am now waiting for a replacement unit. They meant they will make sure I’ll get one without Mura. If this works out then it might mean that some early 8kX units might have had more Mura and that they got the issue under control now. Will be interesting how the new unit will compare to the old one.

In Virtual Desktop its unbearable on bright/white background, but it even jumps out at “Inside Mona Lisa” at the end where the landscape appears and you fly on the airship. Basically in every title which isnt pitch black such as “REZ Infinite” or “Space Pirate Trainer” i can see it easily. Its really bad, if you thought the SDE of the 5K+ was immersion breaking then you should see this. And unlike the SDE which i look “through” and blend out after a few mins the mura is there, i cant ignore it. Just a slight head movement and it jumps right into my eyes again.

I guess Pimax got a batch of faulty panels from the manufacturer, and john2910 and i are among the “lucky” ones who got them in our headsets.

Hopefully this can be resolved via software, but in the end i think this will be a RMA case.

If mura is noticeably worse than the 5k+, then I suspect so as well.

Interesting indeed, I look forward to seeing the data point of what you find when you get a replacement.

My original 8kX had way worse mura than my 5k+ (which has none). I tried to make a photo but couldn’t get it into focus. Tried to recreate the effect from memory in Affinity Photo, think it comes close. The effect is mostly visible on white backgrounds.

thats indeed what i see too, somekind off dirty effect on white backgrounds…
I hope i can get a replacement,or that they can fix it with some software updates

Damnit. I have it too and indeed the SDE on the 5K+ is easier ignored than this new mura crap.

It’s like there is a dirty window at about a meter away, always.
