Pimax Crystal Super 50ppd and Ultrawide User Review

Review from Cj Conklin

VR or triples..the constant debate

Two weeks with the Pimax Super 50ppd and ultrawide and I’veonly
used my triples once. What happened?

I’ve been sim racing 2.5 years. Started with a quest 2 and budget PC.
Okay but not great You need a beefy PC. Upgraded and then had the
quest 3 for a while. I dipped my toe once in a while. It was a cool thing9
to do for a 20-30 min race. My brain got used to the depth perception
and it felt like I just had a screen strapped to my head. Then I kept back
to triples. I’ve been a huge triples fan. Being able to see both mirrors
without having to move your head is king of immersion! So I’ve alway:s
been a triples advocate.

Then enters Pimax in my life. Well…this has 100% changed my mind or?
VR.

The FOV on the Crystal Supers (I’ve now had two were 127 and 137.
Both are amazing. Being able to sit in your seat and see the whole dash
board and both mirrors are (in my opinion) what makes VR feel
immersive and not a “gimmick”. Before VR felt like, hey look this is co.ol.
You can look around the car, but the coolness for me went awaay quick
But Did it make you faster?

Some say yes, but with some headsets the smaller FOV of 90-100 tells
my brain. You got something on your head. And you have to
consistently move your head. Which to me slows you down. Add morre
a FOV and it’s like a whole new world. Your eyes are moving not your
head. Just like real life. You don’t need to consistently move your head.
Yes; you’ve seen my posts on pro triples always over VR. And hiere I am
Foot in mouth; saying. “Well wait a minute…we got something here” SSo
do I continue the pain of unplugging monitors? Which is the only
downside of this. Or do I just build another VR only rig.
