Crystal in the wild impressions
It was dummy me. I was clicking wrong heart lol.I’ll blame Shouldiise meds
Also got a notification that I could buy the headset now. But I’m confused from the early feedback.
@PimaxQuorra @PimaxUSA Please prepare an official statement
a) which components we get when ordering a Crystal now (E.g.: Glass or plastic lenses? Both 35 and 42 ppd lenses? DMAS? Optical cable? Two batteries? Etc.)
b) which additions will be delivered later at no additional cost (in case things are not ready yet)
c) which addons have to be bought at which prices?
d) which features work at the moment? Is all the necessary hardware in the current devices or will some features (e.g. wifi 6, eye tracking, standalone mode, DFR, 120 Hz mode, lighthouse cover etc.) require a new hardware revision?
I opened a ticket with these questions, but I think it would save your support team some time and effort if these questions would be answered publicly. Best here in the forums and directly on the order page (this doesn’t tell anything but the price and that it’s a Crystal atm.) Thanks!
Uggghhhhh This crystal gets real toasty inside…I can only play for about ten minutes before my VR Lens Lab prescription glasses fog up making the entire thing unplayable Anybody got any ideas / solutions?
I just ordered some fog whipes…comon aftermarket face gaskets with better ventilation, perhaps a mini fan.
Is there no active cooling of the eye box?
You mean something like this?
Back from vacation, so happy to see Crystal now is available for shipping ! Finally the wait is over !
Then see they come with only plastic lenses …
I’m somewhat concerned about the visual effects/impact due to DFR.
When I tried the Crystal at the Roadshow, I believe they had some FFR and I could clearly notice a focal point in clear focus, and edges outside of that becoming a bit out of focus and blurry. It was too obvious to me to the point of gimmicky and pulled me out of the immersion of being in VR.
I’m afraid if DFR is too similar and obviously noticeable, that it would ruin my experience in VR and I’ll just turn it off. It’d be a shame if people find that they have to chose between a great visual experience in VR or having some gains in FPS.
I’m still not convinced that DFR is worth the potential ‘visual’ negative impact for 10-15fps boost…
Thanks! Where (when) was this posted? Does this still apply? I can’t find it even if I search for the quoted text (this thread seems to be the only result).
Edit: Ah ok, you made this text up, showing an example of what you’d expect(?)
It was never posted by PIMAX. It is a post I made here with and example of what they could have said.
I’ve had my Crystal for a week now. This headset is out of this world Clarity and Colors. Very pleased with my purchase. My headset came with Glass Lenses.
Agreed!
I cannot wait for lighthouse support and custom prescription lenses…and aftermarket gaskets
DFR on the 8kx was terrible. I removed it almost immediately after installing it and never looked back. I am 100% sure I would notice it on any headset, I am way too sensitive to the change in resolution.
Oh. I didn’t know the 8KX had eye tracking.
It was an add on module.
It wasnt very good.
If DFR is done properly, you will not notice it. That‘s the big difference between it and FFR. The latter can be easily noticed because the focal area remains at the same spot, the center, at all times and as soon as you move your eyes out of the center area you will eventually notice it becoming blurrier. DFR keeps the full resolution area to the center of your gaze at all times.
The eye tracking module for the 8KX was a train wreck. I have one on the shelf - I didn‘t even bother to unpack it. By the time mine arrived, I had read the reports of others who experienced massive issues, couldn‘t get it to work unless they pressed the headset into their face manually. Then we were told to cut out parts of the foam of the 8KX. I never saw reports of it working reliably for anybody until 2+ years later, when some bloke (not Pimax) wrote some additional software to get it working to some degree.
By that time the 8KX was already on the shelf and I didn‘t bother to jump through all the hoops hoping it would finally work. Too much hassle.
Thing is, not everyone’s peripheral vision is the same. I imagine those with a good peripheral vision will notice DFR blurriness more anyways, even if done right.
