Hello to whoever is interested in this topic. I just got a push update on my Pimax Play app to be able to try the Pimax Wifi Airlink. I have a pretty good PC a 9800X3D, RTX5080 and 32GB of DDR5 RAM. I have a wifi 6 router that I used for years for wireless PCVR starting with Quest 2 and then Quest 3 with zero issues.
My first impression with Pimax Airlink was taht I was happy to see it work and immediatlely find my PC in the connection option. Then there was a pretty good qaulity picture. The first problem however started right away when I realized the sound was not working. I tried many things to change sound output. I found a new one called USB Divice but it didnt work. I am lucky I have wifi wireless earbuds that I could use. The second problem is I dont see anywhere on the app or in the computer any option to change the resolution or the bitrate. There is a Diagnostics button in the standalone app but it is greyed out and I cant click on it. I feel the bitrate must have defaulted to something at least 100 mbits/sec but I can not tell for sure. The other thing is I can not change the refresh rate either. This option doesnt exist in Divice Settings when connected with Airlink. The rendering resolution was way to high at something like 4800x5500 which is much higher than the native value of 4300x5100.
Overall I was pleasantly surprised. Of course wireless mode is much more free and reminded me of my Quest 3 but better resolution. The tracking was ok but coming from Valve Index controllers and base stations, I could definitly feel the difference. I was able to play some Lone Echo 2 and it was stable enough taht I could finish some missions for around 20 minutes. The compression was OK but you could tell it was there. I really wonder how it could be if they could add Foveated Streaiming like with Steam VR. The image was at times shaking a bit and unstable buit at some points, it was working extremely well. Unfortunately this tended to happen right before the headset crashes and I have ro restart he headset. I also tried Arizona Sunshine Remake and HLA whic both had some good smooth moments and some non very smooth ones.
My conculusion is this is clearly in Beta form and could benefit from several corrections and updates. However, the potential is clearly there. Unfortunately we dont know when these upodate would come si OG Crystal seems to be put aside lately. I wonder if having a Wifi 6E would improve things.
