The chroma-key passthrough trick is what Virtual Desktop, ALVR and certain Pico builds offer for Quest headsets. Native PCVR headsets without a passthrough camera (Reverb G2, Index, Pimax) can’t show real cockpit through a chroma-key cutout — they have nothing to “show through.” Document masks, Window Capture and DCS Messages still work for those headsets, they just appear on a black background instead of passthrough.

ok will need to find original post in r/virtualreality. The main site not covering recent developments. Might have been in r/pimax as well. The DeV mentioned ordering 7 stereo cameras
Here we go. It was on r/pimax as acom8ng soon feature
https://www.reddit.com/r/Pimax/s/ta3QogUO4I
So a bit expensive considering you will need once released a stereo camera and the $49 after a free 24 day trial version
So MRGO using webcams and iirc cheaper price might be the better value.
YouTube video about the PiMax “limitation”. Noting that seemingly can use a single (mono, see at 7secs.) camera and USB(?)
This is very interesting and I’m glad we have a option to have mixed reality. However i want to suggest that putting my hand in front of the camera for a couple seconds is not ideal when you are in the middle of game play.
in a future improvement, it would be nice to have this on/off synced with a key-board bindings or joystick button press.
The video suggests that Pimax’s MR FP will also be quite limited due to bandwidth issues and would likely need an extra usb going to the PC
The original pass through product zed mini would likely have similar issues that came out years ago.
MRGO might be lighter weight but iirc doesn’t currently have a stereo option. I think in the MRGO topic I posted a link to Reddit of an og crystal user using MRGO with some decent results.
I’m using a CS, rtx4090 attached to a i9-14900KF, and MRGO is (was - I got refunded due to Steam glitch) flaky and just OK. on a single 1080P/30fps camera. Not blaming MRGO, just limitations of current hardware/software I guess.
Yeah. I think anything extra being attached to the PiMax hardware+software pipeline(s) are going to cause issues. With the way we’re “pounding” a PC with Hi-Res, and everyone wanting a zillion frames all the time, extra stuff on yet another separate USBC port is just going to make it tough to be good.
It’s bad enough today with:
and now throwing 1080P/30fps (x2?) into the mix on top of a Flight/Racing sim… Would be happy to have the cake and eat it too, but (seemingly) a tough assignment I think.
I would like to see PTF work on hands tracking passthrough.
My MRGO app passthrough is unreliable.
Indeed with the Super bandwidth is an issue. Might need to run a seperate cable sure toy to the PC. From the review Reddit they were using an ig Crystal; so likely work reasonably on both a pack and the Dream Aur SE models..
Are you using a Super as well as @Zakast ? if so PTF may also suffer issues if not directly connected to PC depending on title. However with it being already an ap on Quest3 maybe more mature optimized code.
Though with MRGO the camera could also be a factor
I am using super.
Which camera would you suggest?
For MRGO? They recommended USB 3. Best to check their site/Steam Page
If you mean PTF? The DeV has not released yet and has ordered iirc 7 different stereo cameras to test.
