New SDE Comparisons. Odyssey+ / Vive Pro / Lenovo Explorer

Some great SDE comparisons for the Odyssey+

That’s a nice comparison video. I’d like to see something like that, which includes the 5K+!

SDE filter seems to add significant blur. Based on the video I prefer the clarity of the lenovo (but the colors are terrible…).

Yes, they are. The Vive Pro has the best colors, imo. The Lenovo seems to be way too blue.

Lenovo is LCD full rgb, the other two are Oled pentile

The vive pro is much nicer/clearer to use than the lenovo , I have both and only use the pro despite the sde

As someone who chose the 5K+ over the 8K it won’t be much of a surprise that out of those three HMDs, I strongly prefer the Vive Pro’s clarity over the Odyssey+'s lack of SDE.

For me that comparison personally is moot though, you’re gonna have to pry that 5K+ right off my face if I were to ever use a low-FOV HMD again.

Really nice vid! I get the impression that for gaming, I’d prefer the Vive Pro’s sharpness over the Odyssey’s lack of SDE. But if you look at the video they show you in bigscreen, then I have a feeling that porn is going to be better with the Odyssey+ (for the people interested in that  )

Can’t wait to do my own comparison but I think this video is pretty good and I’ll probably end up with the same conclusion anyway.

BTW, to the Vive Pro users here: I wonder if you guys agree with me on the fact that that I feel that for the Vive Pro, the resolution actually is a bigger problem than the SDE? I mean during gaming I mostly tend to ‘forget’ about the SDE since it’s not disturbing. However when I look at the distance I feel like my eyes aren’t good, because I can’t see ‘sharp’. This does disturb me much more than the SDE. I wonder if any of you guys feels like that too? So personally I’m much more waiting for higher res panels than SDE fixes.

100% agreed but a huge step up from OG Vive and Rift nonetheless.

Regarding a direct comparison between Vive Pro and my 5K+, it’s actually the lack of feeling you have to refocus on objects further away/squint on the 5K+ that provided the most significant quality/enjoyment upgrade, at least for me and save for the immense step up in FOV obviously.

Yes i agree , sde is not my problem , but clarity does not just rely on resolution either but brightness colour contrast etc

This comparison is stupid because it doesn’t compare them at the same part of the image. This means the lenovo and the odyssey will be blurred because of the lens being out of focus

I don’t understand what you’re trying to say, can you elaborate?

How do you compare the brightness etc coming from the vive pro oled to lcd 5k+

It’s literally the same difference as between an LCD monitor or an OLED one.

The colours are duller, the contrast is lower and the blacks are more greyish. This is absolutely noticeable in a direct comparison.

Yet, when actually using the HMD, I have never had the notion ‘this doesn’t look right’.

I’d obviously prefer a 5K+S with two 1440p RGB OLED panels but I’m extremely happy with what I have now.

I have a lenovo and sde its almost none. The pimax 5k+ or 8k its better? i love to see a comparation between lenovo and pimax but nobody make’s one. :frowning: the sde is great but sweet spot its very bad. for me much more gamebraker than colors.

I find the sde on the lenovo is barely noticeable but the overall clarity is not as good as OGvive with the gear lens mod and would use the ogvive first for any fast paced shooter etc , it’s harder to spot the enemy with the lenovo despite it’s increased resolution with slightly washed out colours and lower contrast.
This makes me wonder whether I ought to be opting for the 5K+BE edition instead of the 5K+ lcd

I need the three musketeers to enlighten me

Are you saying that the 5k+ has similar colour/contrast to the lenovo
