New PiMax 4K: Screen Won't Turn On

Hi,

I received my PiMax 4K yesterday and I’m afraid it’s Dead on Arrival.
Screen just does absolutely nothing, all I get when disconnecting / reconnecting the USB cable is a short flash of a horizontal white bar on the display.

Is there a fix or do I need to RMA?

Seems the same as: http://community.openmr.ai/t/pimax-wont-wake-up-and-leave-standby-mode/1958/5
But there is no real answer there…

Hi Skindred

Try to contact PIMAX support on Skype. They will help you to check if everything is ok or not.

Good luck

Hi sorry to hear your having problems.

Please read the following link

http://community.openmr.ai/t/piplay-version-1-2-75-is-available-for-downloading/2088/117?u=heliosurge

Installation can be tricky. Also can we get a few details

  1. Windows 7 or 10 (if 10 there are issues created if using Creators Update with some)
  2. Cpu, Ram & graphics card.
  3. Piplay version & firmware version (with the issue your experience probably won’t have this info)

Hi,

I think the issue lies in the fact that I have a Serial Number of 1028…
And I need a different firmware.

Can this firmware be provided?

Issue seems the same as http://community.openmr.ai/t/piplay-version-1-2-75-is-available-for-downloading/2088/162?u=skindred

http://community.openmr.ai/t/attention-pimax-official-firmware-manual-update-tool/2160?u=heliosurge

The above link is the official firmware tool.

@Heliosurge The support should clarify that every batch of Pimax Headset has a different firmware.

@PIMAX-Support can please provide us with the latest firmware of each batch as said you are going to do? I think this will prevent further confusion.

Agreed. But this sounds like its out of thr box. Which the firmware should be *stock (no updates yet)

Depending on how upto date his pc is. He may have the creators update and i recall issues with creatots update on piplay with nvidia.

But agreed batch list with how to identify F/W. Using PiPlay to update would be best; only using manual or external flash tool for fixing a bad flash.

I am sure they are working it & will have it rolled out soon.

Windows 8.1 so no Creators Update.
Also, I believe the download link on the main page, links to an older version of the software.
Which might have caused issue in the first place.
The firmware has been reflashed since, but as the correct firmware is not available anywhere online, I can’t go back.

Sorry, I have to apologize to @PIMAX-Support, just downloaded the file from this post http://community.openmr.ai/t/attention-pimax-official-firmware-manual-update-tool/2160 they include the 1.0.0.248 and 1.0.0.251 firmware with a instruction how to update manually and the update tool.
The only thing missing is which firmware is for which batch.Maybe the post is to easy to overlook?

I’m not at home atm. But will check my serial when home & report back. I am pretty sure mine is 251… Just not sure on serial. But think mine is likely the 100 series. However i have only updated through Piplay.

@Sjef may know firmware versions.

@Skindred, I have replied to your skype, please check that

Steve from PiMax support provided me with the correct firmware.
All is working again!

Thanks again Steve, I read somewhere that support was done in bad English or via a translator.
This is not true!

Steve helped me in almost perfect English and did so very quickly.
Really pleased with the level of support I got from the team, they were also very quick to reply, considering the time difference!

Hi there, I have the exact same problem that Skindred had… I used the firmware in this thread and it didn’t work.

Hi @Aneurism if your headset serial number starts with 102 then the latest firmware is 1.0.0.248. After you updated the firmware, plug the headset into a different USB port.

Thanks, turns out I did use the wrong firmware and needed to use 102xxxxx :frowning:

That got the backlight working again. However, PiPlay wouldn’t detect the headset. However after a reinstall of Piplay and a restart it is all working again … Thanks.

Also, on a side note, the guys on email support also replied pretty fast as well, so thanks to all involved.

@Messiah866 @Aneurism

Check out http://community.openmr.ai/t/attention-pimax-official-firmware-manual-update-tool/2160
After helping me out, Steve also updated the Firmware post with the correct firmware.

P1_1.0.0.248.dfu is NOT the correct firmware for 102XXXXX versions.

1.0.0.248.dfu IS

A better naming scheme would be in order here.

Also, a better structure for finding the software when you go to the homepage would be in order.
I would just change the link to go here http://community.openmr.ai/c/piplay
and then just make the last stable PiPlay + Firmware a sticky in that Category.

Otherwise Support is going to help a few more of these new version customers.

Thanks for your good suggestion, I will do it now

Great that is working again and thanks @PIMAX-Support that the correct firmware is uploaded.
@Aneurism @Skindred are your options for turn on device sensor and so on also greyed out with piplay 1.2.75 ?

Yes, it’s normal.

In consideration of usability and convenience for new users, our engineers closed those options. I wil report this issue to them, maybe we will open them in further version.

Ah ok, thank you @PIMAX-Support[quote=“PIMAX-Support, post:19, topic:2172, full:true”]
