I wish I had your hands!
When I had the reverb G1 I put a 5mm cushion on it which moved my eyes very close to the lens and gave me the impression of a far wider fov , does this trick also work with the G2 ???
Are you using your 1080ti? Because it is under the minimum requirements for the 8KX.
I suggest trying it with a 2080ti, even better with a 2080ti with Eyetracking, even better with a 30XXti
The two strength points of the 8KX are FOV and sharpness, using a 1080ti you are removing one of them
I have the 5K+ and after FOV honeymoon I well begin to notice the color and contrast shortcoming up to the point I don’t use the 5K+ anymore.
Simply a question of personal preference but at the 8K-X price I want to have both resolution and colors. and a smaller FOV of 140 degree would by totally acceptable. This debate had is course during the kickstarter campaing
Well we will know better once you have the final version and your ttl video of both can showcase the improvements by comparing pre production to final release.
the 5k+ has it’s place for panoramic stuff like google earth / flight sims but I tend to use the vive pro with gear lens for a lot of games simply because the picture quality /clarity/contrast is nicer , maybe we have a similar situation with the G2 and 8KX but at a much higher quality level .
Same here with flight sim and google earth It’s seems I miss less the colors
Thank you! That was really a good show! My thoughts about Pimax start at 57:12
How much is way better
This is what we want to know.
Like omgomg way better, screw the fov
Or like omg way better but still like more fov
Or WAY BETTER jesus approves.
That depends on each person’s priorities and I could simply not give a statement that is true for everyone. But definitely, in terms of colors and sharpness and being able to focus on things in front of you, this G2 is way superior.
Iracing is 80% of my time spent in VR. I wonder how G2 is for distance. Even my 5k+ looks great in cockpit view with 2080ti
As far as I remember Dennis was really impressed by 5k + and was laughing about Vive Pro FOV.
Funny to see that Reverb G2 with tinny FOV is now cool and better than 8kx in his honest opinion.

This is the exact reason I like to know what way better means, because it sounds like it’s a massive jesus approves way better compared to 8kx for him to change from the vive pro reaction to g2.
I LL wait for my 8kx to arrive and of course wait for more G2 reviews. It all can be quite subjective.
Surely we can quantify the g2 improvements if we can see how it compared to g1, would you have access to a g1 that you can do a brief TTL of them compared? @mixedrealityTV
I think expectations might also play a big role. I don’t think that Sebastian and Dennis are deliberately on a mission to destroy Pimax (which cannot be in the interest of any VR enthusiast).
But after the self-destructing 5k+, bad experience with employers and negative attitude of the people they mostly speak with and value, I guess the expectation when looking through the headset isn’t “let’s see how great this is” but more “let’s check whether it’s still as unbearable as before”. And then one goes through the list of bad things: “Can I somehow still see distortion? Yes, there it is! Check! Waaahh! How do I get out here!” I think the expectation to like what one will see or to confirm that it’s still not acceptable plays a big role in the outcome. (I already wrote about the neural effects about exception based filtering in another thread - just short - observations are not only based on actual input but at least as much from what one expects to see. If the input doesn’t deviate extremely from the expectation then this deviation doesn’t even reach the perceptive part of the brain anymore and is filtered out before that, So one really sees what one expects to see, unless the inputs completely falsify it).
That could imho be one of the reasons for the quite positive reviews (or first impressions) of the 5k+ and even the 8kX from MRTV in the past and the “completely unusable” judgements now. E.g. Sebastian enjoyed the 5k+ for months as his main driver, now it’s uncacceptable even for half an hour. And I believe him that he feels that way.
So I think that the Alternative Reality people who reinforce each other in their opinion have a really hard time to enjoy or even review a Pimax headset unprejudiced, even if they try hard (what I think they do in the latter case).
That being said - the 8kX has it’s flaws - some might be fixable, some probably not. And it has it’s good sides. Depending on our “filter” some of these aspects might be downplayed or emphasized.
That is at least my main explanation for the day and night difference in reviews. All guestimate times imho.
I saw how casually he put on the 8kx and turned the IPD wheel, and I knew that the picture was not sharp.
Yepp, think in Dennis’ first impression he might not have hit the sweetspot or something. Coming to the conclusion that the 8kX in native mode is less sharp than the 8k+ in upscaled mode is objectively refutable when looking through the sweetspot in both cases. (At least for my 8kX and assuming the upscale mode in the 8k+ and the 8kX is comparable. I did some reading tests from the same distance and could read texts in native mode that were unreadible in upscale mode. Also the difference in clarity is imho and subjectively obvious.)
I assume that the IPD value did not fit.
With my normal IPD, the 8k + is also out of focus for me. The pixels are not exactly on top of each other. I had already advised Seb several times to use the Crossgrid Mod. has always been ignored.
