Loss of tracking when looking down (Vive does not lose it)

I have a 5K+. My basestations are mounted high and Vive tracking has been 100% perfect since I bought in in 2016.

But on PImax 5K+, when I look down on the floor under me (or sometimes if I just tilt my head down a bit) I lose tracking very often, even in the middle of my playspace. I connected the Vive and tried too look down in the exact same spot and it works flawlessly. I can even lean down to have my head upside down and it never loses tracking.

Does anyone else experience loss of tracking when looking down on the floor?

Make sure motion smoothing is turned off in steam vr. Also try connecting the headset to a different USB port or disconnecting other USB ports.

Motion smoothing is disabled. I will try other USB ports, thanks.

Are you sure this actually fixed it, and it was not a placebo effect?
I mean, did you check if tracking gets worse if you reenable motion smoothing? Is it consistent and repeatable?

I ask, because in theory there should be no connection between tracking quality and motion smoothing - it does not work for Pimax anyway.

I don’t even see the motion smoothng option when Pimax is connected, I can only see this option when vive is connected.

It definitely made it better, i can actually change the IPD without the headset losing tracking.

Never had this problem on Pimax but here is something useful:

Use the sync cable between the lighthouses. It improves your tracking significantly. I know its a pain having another cable going around your room but its really worth it.

Never had any tracking issues with my vive, don’t know how tracking can be even better, especially when setup right. Is it even faster, more accurate using the sync cable?

Thanks for all the replies. I switched the USB port in my PC and it seemed to help.

Hi Martin, thanks for the suggestion. Considering my Vive has been tracking flawlessly for over 2 years without the cable, I should not need to connect for Pimax to work correctly. Also the Wife Acceptance Factor of that cable is too low
Luckily I managed to fix the issue by switching the USB port.
