Lens inserts for 8KX

Has anyone found a good solution for lens inserts?

I recently got them from vroptician for my Index and really enjoyed the visual improvement.

Alas vroptician don’t offer a solution for Pimax so has anyone found a good alternative rather than contacts?

i’ve played around with some ideas for 3d printing but i’m actually not sure how to dimension the lens holding part.

Other than some of the creative user made holders. I have only seen VRmust’s lens insert holders some of reported it being good whiles others not.

If mem serves one of the members here was @Korgen whom made a lens holder with recommendations on presciption lenses.

With the ET being released I imagine some will create a solution based on ET mount concept.

I ordered mine from VRmust, I paid for the expedited shipping, they are on the way now, but I didn’t realize they were coming from China when I placed the order on their website. I have the tracking information:

In transit

I’m in the US, so, I’lll just have to wait and see how they are.

When I ordered for my HP Reverb, I used VROptician.com, but they didn’t have anything for Pimax.

I use the 3d printed ones for the 5k+. I had to cut off the little tab spacers for them to fit my 8Kx but they do work if you put them under the foam facepad. There is enough clearance for them not to touch the 8kx lenses. They are the ones that Pimax provided the gerber file for.

VRmust lenses and frame are sold out for now but I’m curious about their quality and compatibility.
@fgethers1 let us know :wink:

@jimh54 which one do you use? Usually I recommend nyajigon22’s or my remake (depending on your IPD but I’ve heard they don’t fit on Vision frame headsets (8k+ 8kx and maybe Artisan). Unfortunately I only have a 5k+ so I can’t test on other headsets.
If you have an OG 5k+ or 8k that’s ok.

Hi John,

Can you add these to #ACCESSORIES:Mods3dprinters category. Thanks

I had the ones that look like yours, i ordered them from thingverse. it’s been quite a while ago. I got the lenses from zenimax, i think. i bought complete glasses with frames and just removed the frames and glued the lenses into the 3d printed one. used on the 5k+ for about a year then tried them on the 8kx when it arrived but i could not get them to fit with the little tabs on there so I cut them off and it works great.

Oh ok! I really didn’t know it worked on 8kx, thanks for the information :+1:

I got mine from VRmust, and found them too problematic to use… they come in Left and Right individual frames with a clip in the middle that doesn’t come close to holding them securely… I was too afraid of scratching my lenses with them as I couldn’t even keep them together long enough to use them… plus, even my thicker face pads would not prevent them from touching my face. I’ll keep looking for a more intelligent design… luckily my eyes are not that bad.

I have switched my VRMust prescription lenses from my 5K XR to my 8KX, and they work much better - partly as I am combining the foams from both headsets to get a comfortable fit… Happy with this solution though, I’m in virtual desktop right now and no longer need to wear lenses or worry about scratching my glasses. The only thing left is for the terrible SMAS to be replaced with the DMAS for me to finally feel like I got what I backed in the original KS!

I received the Lens inserts from VRmust, The came in a pretty nice package and included a leather like face cushion, I guess as a gift. I saw it mentioned in this thread that the center clip to hold the two lenses together were lose, well they must have corrected that as there were 2 of them included and they fit very tightly, no issues at all. I put a thin rubber stipe on the side that faces the Pimax lens just to protect from any scratches, don’t think it was required but didn’t want to take any chances.
With the lenses in place, the experience is so much more consistent as you don’t have to hunt so much for the sweet spot…At least that has been my experience.

The only problem that I experienced was that the magnets that are in the frames and lens holder kept coming out, it was an easy fix to put a little super glue on the magnets and re-insert them.

Overall, I think this is a really good solution, I’m sure there will be others, but this works for me.

Just curious, but do any of you have any experience wearing contact lenses? I’ve never worn them but was wondering if they are easy to deal with? If so, why don’t you guys wear them instead of using a lense adapter for your VR needs? I have keratucous disease in one eye, and I’m thinking of getting a special contact lense for it.

@isamu,
Yes, I spent a good portion of my adult life wearing Contacts, unfortunately for me, they can no longer correct my vision with Contacts.

I went from normal soft lenses to Multi Focal lenses and then finally they could not accommodate me any longer.

I now wear glasses with a Progressive Prescription, So, for me there are no other choices :frowning_face:

I just cannot get myself to literally grab my eyeball to remove them…

Yeah I had the same problem…I tried getting used to them a couple of years ago and always had a lot trouble trying to remove them. Eventually just gave up and decided they weren’t worth the hassle.

I use contacts since the oculus dk1 day to day solely for vr, it´s really comfortable and imho easier as a prescription adapter. And since my wife / friends likes to use my Pimax as well it’s less fiddle to just use my contact lenses :wink:

Thanks guys very interesting. Yeah I remember dmel wearing them in his videos, but forgot to ask. @NextGenVR if you’re reading this , how do you find wearing contact lenses for VR in your experience? Do you find wearing them worth it? Or is putting them on too much of a hassle for you?

If you get comfortable contacts, I find putting them on not an issue if I plan to spend most of my day playing VR. On some days though, I skip wearing contacts in favor of playing Call of Duty Warzone or if I know I’ll be busy with things that day.
