Lack of technical data

Why are the technical data so poor on Vr headsets.
If you have luck the manufactorer specify fov, resolution and display type.
I have not seen any specification of the lenses. How bad are they outside the sweetspot, distorsion resolution etc. How big is the sweetspot where you can disolve the pixels.
What is the resolution in vr, pixel density per degree.

How should I as an potentiall buyer be able to compare different headset with this lack of data.

Worst example is StarVr that actually avoid to specify the resolution just number of pixels that also include sub pixels.

Unfortunately it comes down to reviews in vr headsets.

At least for nitty gritty details.

Even monitor & TV manufacturers rarely post enough details on specs.

Agree but when you buy a tv you can at least see the picture in the store.

Of couse reviews is a good thing but very difficult to jugde. Just look at the reviews in here.

The lens is a critical design detail in the headset so I think it would be fair to customers to at least giva any data. But I guess they do not dare.

With Lenses your apt to get basic info. Fresnel, Aspherical. But nothing like you would from professional cameras.

As for sweet spots this usually comes from independent reviews. Look at heafsets like psvr generally don’t post the lenses sweet spot with only having soft ipd.

AGREED! I’ll read reviews just to weed out the “too good to be true” headsets and then I have to buy the darn thing to do my own review.
