that… sounds silly enough to actually be true.
Just wait for your KDMAS, you will see
.
What again is the expected difference in terms of sound quality between the KDMAS and the DMAS ? Or is it just the 1 connector / 2 connectors point ?
I am trying to figure out if it is even worth giving the KDMAS a try or just let the headset collect a bit of dust till the DMAS eventually arrives…
it supposed to have different/better drivers. and it will maybe/probably/whoknows be better balanced with the dac in the 8kx… i mean it’s a guessing game really.
That is close to 100% what happenend. I think they went with the DMAS design (and molds in particular!) including the two audio jacks, realized that wouldn’t work with the KDMAS, supplied the bizzarre audio adapter and just ran with it.
I voiced that concern immediately when the first KDMAS arrived. No pressure on an on-ear headset defeats the purpose.
So the audio concept of the DMAS is the Index concept of hovering earphones ? What exactly makes the bass appear rich and full which doesn’t work out for on ear headphones if at a small distance from the ear ? Is it just drivers or actual hardware ? Because if it is only drivers, Pimax could correct it, if not, well - another Pimax item for the bin, isn’t it, joining i.a. the eye-tracking module (from what I can read and view (Voodoo couldn’t get it to work properly either).
I really wonder if the 20 mio. injection will help Pimax produce some polished & more or less fully functional products in 1-2 years. I will not buy any of their new products for a while because they would need to convince me that I won’t be getting the same quality standards as so far. Hit & miss isn’t good enough if you ask 1,300$ for your flagship headset and 199$ for eye-tracking, to name two examples.
The DMAS was announced to be an Index style speaker, yes.
The audio solution on the Index as well as the HP G2 aren’t actual headphones, they are speakers which is why they can provide bass even without touching the ear.
Apparently Pimax used the headstrap and attachment design of on off-ear speaker solution and then incorporated the drivers of an on-ear solution for the KDMAS. I mean, you have paid for the moulds already, why invest again, right?
That would also explain why the frequency charts are pretty good as they wouldn’t take into account that the speakers aren’t actually positioned on the user’s ear as they would have to be to work properly.
That said, the 8KX with the CK and MAS fits amazingly well for me personally, so maybe my freakishly large head and protruding ears will have the KDMAS audio solution fit snuggly against my head.
I know You figured it out but just wanted to let everybody else know that this might also be down to not wearing the strap properly… ![]()
It has to cup the lower back part of Your head and as You figured out too, You might need to push a little harder for it to come all the way down (or the hinge might not allow it and You need a replacement plastic (as opposed to metal) one - on the 8KX that is) … ![]()

Ah sorry, with “drivers” in audio context we actually mean the speakers, hardware.
Sorry I’ve been really busy with work the last couple days and had no time for VR.
Following what VoodooDE said, I can confirm that indeed the sound is MUCH better when using the Y adapter and plugged into the left audio jack. The sound suddenly becomes rich and full with good base. I have no idea why this would be the case, but probably a firmware fix is in the works. But actually there seems to be something glitchy about the sound since the volume turned itself very loud at one point when plugged into both ports, and there was a high pitched electrical whine coming from both speakers like you would expect to hear if a pre-amp was turned up really high.
For now my recommendation is to use the left port with the Y adapter. I have tried it with the Y adapter on the right port and it does not sound as good.
So I’ve heard the high-pitched noise before too. The solution was to plug headphones in before turning the headset on. Pretty weird.
Just hooked the kdmas up to my 8kx. Left audio jack as suggested. Sounds much, much better than SMAS. I put the bass boost on in windows sound control panel to give it a better low-end, it’s not ‘great’ by any means, but will tide me over until the DMAS turns up. It’s biggest issue is the aforementioned fact that my ears don’t protrude from my skull by about 5cm, like, you know, humans, so the cups don’t make a seal.
