We can guess, but really. None of us knows… ![]()
just because i saw you repeating it a few times, index and dmas is “off ear”. “over ear” is full cups that cover the entire ear. the smas is “above ear” and the kdmas is “on ear”. sorry a bit ocd triggered.
D’OH…
Sorry… I’ll repeat it for myself until it’s buried deep within my subconscience…
I mean it’s a small thing and normally I wouldn’t but it can add to confusion.
If it’s wrong it’s wrong…
I’ve experimented with this a bit more, and I can say the SMAS is better than the KDMAS without a doubt when plugged into the 8KX. The SMAS is louder and clearer sounding, I would even say don’t bother plugging the KDMAS into the 8KX, because even though it works it works poorly.
That’s really disappointing. I’m assuming you’ve messed with Windows sound settings?
I have been using the same sound settings for both, it’s nothing crazy no equalizer or SFX or anything just direct output. I don’t know that it’s disappointing since I think we are not supposed to use the KDMAS with the 8KX. It’s disappointing that we are supposed to buy the more expensive DMAS, but it’s not disappointing that the KDMAS is working as intended, if that makes sense.
I have tried plugging the KDMAS directly into the PC and it sounds better, not sure yet how it compares to SMAS in the 8KX… need more testing.
I noticed that once. But it worried me because i wondered if the jack wasn’t soldered properly.
I dont know if I’d call that a fix.
“Just jiggle it until it sounds good”
@VoodooDE please try this and report if its true.
Edit: I have the SMAS
What do frequency response charts have to do with compatibility?. Nothing, they show coloration of sound caused by the driver nothing else. Also a flat response means nothing if the drivers can’t deliver a balanced range of bands. They’re so far out of balance it doesn’t matter if the driver has a flat curve as they will always sound bad purely because they can’t deliver certain frequencies.
Also the housing the driver is mounted in will affect the response curve as the materials used will cause certain frequencies to resonate more than others making the provided graph even more useless. The standard audio solution seems to have been used purely based on a play to drive sales of an upgrade solution, which it will but probably not a solution offered by Pimax as it also shows they know nothing about sound quality and can’t be trusted when they pitch audio as deluxe in my opinion.
Can you tell me one positive thing about the KDMAS?I realy like to know that please…
No i don’t have the KDMAS fortunately. I’m taking about frequency response based on a chart which is what Mirage was referencing. I could waste time setting up my testing/calibration mics and run some tests against the SMAS if you like which would show just how bad a solution it really is, but in this case it is so obvious it’s not worth the effort.
If those charts aren’t based on the drivers are you trying to say they are based on the mounted drivers within the SMAS? If thats the case why would Pimax green light such a poor solution which clearly has a short coming for the lower frequencies which is for a flagship product?
Good to hear you will research the issue with the plug, does that mean you are also going to research the lense alignment, mura and bad tracking issues as well. Or how about the sketchy tax email that has been sent out are those all under investigation as well?
Hahah triggered much.
Way to go Kevin, so childish yet expected
Can someone remind me why the KDMAS is no good for the 8KX ?
I tried it again (with audio jack fully inserted and not fully inserted, no difference with Pimax 8K Vision Plus or Pimax 5K Plus.
Comfort is really good for me but sound is really bad, especially because there is no bass at all.
Beckerbox arrived today. I connected kdmas to artisan and was happy with the sound. However… the speaker does not cover the ears completely. The speaker is a bit short on my ears. If only this problem is solved, I will be 100% satisfied.
I know it’s strange, but I’m sure I did everything right.
However I will be in contact with Keppler soon to check out what the problem is.
Looks like the collaboration between Pimax and me is going to be better again
Isn’t the issue with lack of bass just that some people don’t get a proper seal?
That would make perfect sense.
I tried it now with the adapter cable (connected to the left port of the Pimax 8K+) and it WORKS!! Sound is MUCH better then!
Volume is the only possible ‘compatibility’ issue here. Impedance mismatch is not a possibility here, frequency response, distortion, and volume, are the usual metrics.
Wrong. Frequency response charts published by Pimax are more than complete enough to show any plausible ‘missing frequencies’ due to typical mechanical resonance.
No. Speaker housing only becomes a problem when adequate venting or damped space is not available on both sides (altering frequency response), or when flimsy materials vibrate (distortion).
Having tested at least the SMAS, I can attest that Pimax is not faking anything here, the frequency response is as expected from the graph, and the amount of vibration is not unreasonable like some old alarm clock radio.
