It depends on what you want in a headset. I think if they gave it two much higher resolution screens, but didn’t expand the field of view like Pimax does, they could have an affordable headset with a much sharper, higher resolution picture than Pimax, since they aren’t spreading that resolution over a wider space. And that higher resolution picture would be better for certain tasks, such as watching movies, using virtual computer desktops, games where the details/draw distance/clear text are more important than immersion.
I wouldn’t mind owning both a Pimax 8k and a high-res lower-FOV headset.
Id love to be wrong in this instance. If they are willing to make fov stop being a spec, get the refresh rates way high some how, and do 4k per eye oled. Do it. If it can be lightfield, welcome to the future.
Truth i think the next 5 years of vr is going to be quite interesting with advancements. However that also means a pain as well; especially folks who love to be day 1 owners.
