HTC is back! Vive pro 2 with 2.5k * 2.5k per eye @ 120 hz

So can someone explain how the Focus 3 will work, would you download vive port games to the HMD similar to how you do with the Quest 2.

I work away from home a lot so I don’t have a PC I’ll be able to tether to ?

And does Vive port have games like poker stars Pavlov etc available.

Searched the internet for answers but struggling to understand how I can use it when away from home.

Thank you.

Is anyone else really excited to have pre ordered the Pro 2.

Honestly I’m counting the days down like I used to waiting for Christmas Day.

Just hope it’s worth it.

cant wait either!..

I’m only worried a Valve Index 2 or Samsung Odyssey 2 with much better specs gets announced/released shortly after Pro 2, which is why I think HTC are giving incentive to preorder now, then again, I thought the 8KX was going to be outdated by this time… I feel like HTC deserves my money because Vive 1 was so good (visually better than Rift1 imo(brightness/FOV/immersion) besides screendoor).

Cant wait to see what they come up with… i hope something with a great oled display…

Same, but hopefully not too soon, lol. Those Samsung patents have been around for years now…I’d only want OLED if it was RGB, no more screen door for me, and I didn’t like the pixel diffuser that Samsung and Valve used…it makes everything less crisp. We’ll probably need 4K x 4K pentile for no screendoor

Standard issue with competition; like consoles, often he whom releases first gets one upped bu the competitor.

Samsung definitely could be interesting as they have some interesting patents.

I really hope the dual fresnel isn’t to blur over SDE as samsung and others have done. At this resolution there is no reason to be doing that imo as it creates a whole host of other issues.

I hope the colors are mind blowing. It’s really the only reason I still love using HTC headsets, and I’m afraid that may be a property of OLED displays. Why cant a panel manufacturer do what sony did!?

Hi Kevin. Have you seen any new OLED tech on the horizon? An XR 2.0 would stand out from the competition :sunglasses:

You could be right.

As I remember the Index was only a rumour until the day the Pro was released, then the very next day they released all the details of what to expect.

Where do I find the leaked footage, mate?

Also only 90 degrees vertical vs index’s 100 degrees. But still overall comparable to the Index because of the higher horizontal FOV

He measured it with standard foam, so most likely it’s even a bit wider and I’m now expecting it to be really 120 degrees but you’d probably need to mod the foam a bit. Too bad about the vertical FoV although again, measured with standard foam.

In 2 days the embargo will end so lots of info will be coming our way soon!

True, I got terrible FOV with the G2 with stock foam, like 85 degrees so it’s possible it’s the full 120 degrees as stated

So whats the horizontal fov measured in the test hmd tool ?

index got 130 degree vertical and 108 horizontal for me in the rov test tool

That’s impossible  Here is the DB from Risa’s tool, which measures the rendered FoV. The visible FoV will never be more than that: HMD Geometry Database | Collected geometry data from some commercially available VR headsets.

So that’s 109 vertical. As @evertec said above, MRTV measured 90 vertical but he did so using a visual tool (probably ROV). We’d need him to run it through Risa’s tool. I’m sure he’ll do so in his final review. Hopefully there’s at least a few more degrees that we can see if we mod the foam a bit.

@Djonko @Douglarse

To get a more true max FoV really need a tool like @risa2000 Hmdq to see what it is rendering. It seems odd to have 90° Vertical and 114° Horizontal. In that both FoV values should be like the G2 in that these are square panels. Otherwise it sounds like there is a fair amount of panel utilization waste in the Vertical with at current user FoV test showing 24° difference between Vertical and Horizontal.
