I’m currently using an Oculus setup. I plan on buying a 5k+ but learned, that I would need a basestation for positional tracking. Main usage would be to play Elite Dangerous and some rounds of Beat Saber (and some other sitting games).
Now, I can only order the controller+basestation bundle. Do I actually need the controllers? If not I’d like to order 2 basestations (or is one basestation enough?) Do I even need either of those, I guess so.
The pimax headsets are compatiable to use with LH v1.0 aa well. Just keep in mind v2.0. Lighthouses are only compatible with v2.0 tracking.
Now for Beat Saber I believe you will need controllers. But if for tge time being you just want to play seated experiences you could buy 1 used/new Vive Lighthouse would be sufficient.
V1.0 tracking required a sync flash to operate. This requirement was eliminated in Tracking sensors v2.0. LH v1.0 also needed to sync with other LHes via seeing one another or a sync cable. V1.0 LHes cannot be used at tge same time with v2.0 LHes. You can have a max of 4 LHes in version 1.
LH version 2.0 no longer has the sync flash needed for Tacking version 1 (og vive & wands) and is only compatible with version 2.0 devices. LH v2.0 can exceed 4 LHes & tge lighthouses do not need to “see” one another. The benefits of this is easier setup if you do portable VR (Roadshow demoing for example).
V2.0 LHes also gives the benefit of larger playspace due to more than 4 LHes being able to be used & you could setup a VR funhouse so to speak with multiple rooms being used. (Of course need a vr backpack or wireless solution).
Thanks for that explanation. Seems as if I wait a bit then. It’s just a hefty price point @700 for the pimax and 150 for the basestation. Especially when the bundle of 2 controllers + 2 basestation is @300 and not available atm.
