I was trying to buy 10 min after it went live and 1.5hrs after through the backer portal and no good. couldn’t even add it to the cart.
on the pre-order side it appeared I could do it if I chose.

From my response in https://community.openmr.ai/t/non-backers-helped-sell-out-eyetracking/29364/13
So, we have only one so far ordering the module?
I tried around two hours after opening, got the errors you all got. Did wait around another two hours and then it worked. I could use my discount code.
I could even put a second one in my cart, apply my second code. But then i thought this would be unfair to others and cancelled.
Maybe all should cool down a little. Sure, the server should have worked. But then it would have been sold out in a minute and many would complain anyway.
If I would have known there were only 50, I wouldn’t have spent all afternoon retrying…
Same here. Also, just allowing pre-orders would have been better. Then we would’ve gotten into a queue at least. People are mostly pissed because of the wasted time trying to get through.
All headsets benefit from it, and it could enable higher supersampling / graphic details.
Only 50 units??! What was the point?
For starter, you could have waited to have more units. 50 units is a joke for so many buyers, and I wouldn’t have bothered trying to make a purchase if I knew.
Secondly, you could have limited the purchase to the backers for the time being. How long have we been waiting the the promises of the Kickstarter.
Thirdly, as mentioned in another topic, you should have communicated a deadline before which any purchase would have been delivered with the stretch goals package. That way, people would have not rushed all at the same time as soon as it opened.
Pimax communication and way of doing things have been subpar most of the time. I don’t deny you’re all working hard, but every time it is bundled with bad surprises and bad decisions.
Seriously, what image do they want to give when their store is crippled like that.
50x200$ is 10k$$

So there is a BIG POINT doing that
Glad I just tried briefly and then thought „ah, another Pimax experience, will try again when other backers report it is working“…
Guys, try to relax, this will be the 1st & 2nd batch of a new Pimax product - are you sure you want to have one of these ? And don‘t you want to wait for initial user reviews telling you how well it works on their system, how stable, non-intruding it is, etc… ?
I am patient on this one as it essentially serves to increase the frame rate or quality settings, which of course is intruiging, but not comparable to getting e.g. the 8KX shipped. And somebody said that Pimax should have produced thousands before even offering them - how much demand do you think will be there for such a module ? This will be one of the main reasons for early sale to see how to scale the production. And I for one am glad if Pimax doesn‘t just take pre-orders with shipment nit expected any time soon.
I‘ll see if I get one next week (because I will take the risk of it not functioning as desired as I am interested to see first-hand how it performs) and otherwise I‘ll just wait for another (couple of) weeks…
I thought these would only ship with the Stretchgoal package anyhow, so there is no gain in being one of the first anyhow, but that might be incorrect…
We were told the backer price was for a limited time only but not told what time period was, (also given the 100 discount (originally free) was a backer stretchgoal it should not expire at all) and also not told there would be only 50 units initially. Plenty of causes for confusion before the site itself collapsing.
I lucked out and got one, but going into it yesterday was honestly panicked trying to get one because we have no reason to believe that in 2 weeks the backer price period wouldn’t end and anyone who didn’t get one at the price is a case of tough luck. You might turn around and say ‘how could you think we would do that’ and honestly there have been a fair few cases of ‘i have altered the deal, pray i do not alter it further’ that would make a fair few people unsure of how it would be handled. I wouldn’t be defending pimax from presumptions that are well earned , i would just focus on making sure that people don’t have a reason to make those presumptions going forward and letting companys reputation heal with time.
If something is going on sale with extremely limited stock, please state that in advance. The difference is people went into the store yesterday expecting to have no issue ordering and all but 50 came out with a guaranteed negative experience with pimax.
If we knew going in that our chances were 1/10 of even getting it on a perfectly functional website then expectations could have been tempered. As is 500 people are left with thinking they could get it, and they couldn’t, and can further blame pimax directly because of website issues.
Because I wasn’t able to buy an eye tracker this morning, I’ve given it a lot of thought and have decided not to buy one.
The main reason I wanted one was for DFR, but I did some more FFR tests and have decided that there are too many flickering artifacts in the low res regions in Elite D (even when I’m looking as far away from the screen borders as possible). Since that’s my primary VR game, I’m going to skip buying an eye tracker.
I’m now also a little on the edge. Should I really (wait until I am lucky to be able to) invest in an eye tracking module and more importantly a new PC with an RTX 3080 card to be fully able to use the 8kX or just sell the 8kX, buy a G2 and be done and happy. Or even just keep the 5k+.
I’m of course looking forward to testing the 8kX in person to see whether the experience is worth the connected costs. I’m not really mad at Pimax, but it’s really getting tiresome that nothing they touch seems to “just work”, there is always at least some caveat. Perhaps some employee user-experience-goal-alignment workshops might help? No idea.
I think I read somewhere that the eye trackers will be shipped separately.
It is great entertainment watching the ways Pimax f* ups. Even something no one imagined would be a problem. Beyond imagination. And the drama that follows too.
Pimax is certainly making more mistakes, but from the few reviews so far, the 8KX appears to be a good product. I suggest adopting a different frame of mind, like I’m doing. The 8KX should be noticeably better than my 8K (or your 5K+) at the same settings.
You don’t NEED a new graphics card to enjoy an 8KX, assuming your system is fine for running a 5K+. There will be less SDE, a sharper image, and you might even be able to reduce the amount of super sampling and still have great visuals. Then, sometime in the future, when you upgrade your system, the 8KX should be even better. That doesn’t negate the fact that with your current system, it should still be better than your current headset.
I hope you are right - I will hopefully find out soon
I’ll need a new card to be able to make use of DFR though - unless a miracle happens and Nvidia backports the ability to Pascal cards.
I am a backer and tried to order, but now have decided to wait on some real user feedback on these eye trackers before purchase.
I think that’s wise. Wait and see, before giving Pimax more money.
There are other VR-related things I could use that $100 towards, like a pair of Index controllers or an RTX 3080.
That’s another reason to wait before getting an eye tracker. This is not a good time to buy a new graphics card. The 30xx series should be available before the end of the year, probably sooner.
After eye-tracking had originally been a free stretch-goal ? Pimax have surprised me many times, but if they had the chuzpe to pull that one off, I guess they can better move their offices to some remote mountain village so the angry mob won‘t be able to get them. So no, I cannot see that they even dare to think about such a scenario.
The link in the Kickstarter project update is not working for me (message: 403: forbidden)? Is this, because all the available eye trackers are already sold?
I am still not sure, if I should order the eye tracker. I will use the 8KX headset only for DCS and IL2 and I am still not sure, if I can use it there. Do these games need to support the eye tracker and foveated rendering or does it work for all games?
