How does the crystal super 50 ppd Fov compare to the 8kx

Hello everyone

I’m kind of curious how does the Fov on the Super feel compared to the 8kx?

Does it feel like the normal mode in Pitool or more the small Fov or is it really like potato view?

I mean numbers probably don’t say a lot because it’s a totally different headset. But can anyone on here tell me that has both headsets?

Because I’m thinking about changing my order to the Oled version but because I’m so used to the Fov I’m afraid it’s going to break my feeling of immersion.

So would like to hear people’s thoughts on this to help me getting an idea of what the Fov feels like in comparison.

It depends the Standard 50ppd iirc has around 125 wide with a lab mode I think that can achieve 135ish.

They have released an Ultra wide 50ppd that is better optimized by trading off some stereo overlap that achieves 140 wide which is the Normal in the earlier headsets like the 8kX.

I would have to look things up but iirc the Supers may have a bit more VFoV. The stereo overlap I think on both 50ppd modules I believe is a a bit bigger. Always view stereo overlap in degrees as the % of total HFoV is not a proper metric as human Stereo Overlap is around 120.

RoadToVR has a good article in stereo overlap m

Yes I already ordered the ultrawide but the Oled looks really good as for colors and blacks but I’m just afraid that being used to the 8kx the field of view will be disappointing because it’s only 116 I applied for having both the ultrawide and the Oled version for testing so I can try both maybe it’s better to wait if that is a possibility then I can compare and see wich one is best for me but I’ll just have to wait and see if there letting me try both

Yeah the micro OLED will be a bit smaller HFoV than Small setting on the 8kX which is 120. At least pimax is using HFoV instead of BSB2 which is saying huge 116 Diagonal FoV which is around the Index of 108 wide.

I look forward to your evaluation of both optic Engine modules
