I find it kind of unfair that people who order a Pimax 8KX now get the optical cable for free, but people who pre-ordered the 8KX and had to wait a year to get it, did not receive any gift with their purchase.
I think sometimes we have to remind ourselves that Pimax is actually trying to run a business⌠
@NextGenVR thats true we had gone through some big problems with our 8kx units, even the dmas will be next yearâŚ
Though electromagnetic fields cannot interfere with fiber optics (short of some really extreme stuff that happens only in astronomy or laboratory), I would be surprised if the USB3 stuff were made optical. I would expect only the DIsplayPort side to be made optical.
By the way @SweViver , I have been working on some minor stuff. Please keep an eye on your messages. And thereâs more than I just sent you. ![]()
I will catch up with you tomorrow. Just called the day. Completely dizzy after sitting in Unity with Armin for 13 hours straight
That sounds rough. I look forward to helping out.
Indeed!
I paid 2100 USD for my RTX 3090. I waited 2 months. Barely 3 weeks after I got it, I was told the 3080Ti will be released Q1 with same amount Cuda cores, 4Gb less of RAM and probably half the price. Nice.
NowâŚ
- Am I the stupid one?
- Did Nvidia robbed me of 1000usd?
- Or is it just how the market looks like today?
And in a few days from now, the Radeon 6900XT might kill my 3090 for half the price.
Oh and speaking of gifts. I never received my promised Watchdogs game code of my RTX purchase.
Either way. The 3090 is my best purchase of the year. Same for 5950X. No regrets.
I think we all need to remember these sort of pieces of equipment are capital assets, and rather liquid at that.
The worst that can happen is we lose $100 here or there in our actual net worth, due to some new thing being available a little later, on a system that costs $3500 or more in total.
I have much more to be concerned about with the lack of multi-GPU support and such.
Any day, I would rather have my 8kX a few weeks sooner, at another $100, than have an optical cable I donât immediately need anyway.
Okay i gonne order the cable, but dont let it be a disaster again that the cable isnt even readyâŚ
By the way @SweViver my mura on the 8kx is way to bad and some other problems and i am gonne RMA THE 8KX.
I REALY hope the mura is less on the new unit⌠i hope the rma goes fast!
Keep in mind this often happens. Look at the Nvidia 2000 series. Early buyers bought them and then not long after âSuperâ versions were released.
I have often told a few friends that buying hardware today within a couple of months it may have a lower price tag. Pc memory at times can be crazy for prices with supply and demand fluctuating the prices. Memory of course also often causes spikes and drops in gpu prices(usually spikes more than drops)
Sometimes you have to remind yourself, that everything we are very into is a kind of new technology. The new RTX card is something new. The new AMD card is the first one which is trying to fight Nvidia which lowers the price overall during this competition. They are head to head compared to the previous years.
And keep in mind: we all are enthusiasts! If you want to be safe, do not try to catch everything in the first move. Wait and see and think about it before you are buying it. Often companies are changing little things on their first release a couple of days later to make it better or they are changing something to be more competitive regarding the other companies. Buying something in the first move is only something for the hardcore enthusiasts who do have enough money to do that and they donât care about this.
The same with Pimax. You need to remind yourself: Pimax is a Startup company! Itâs unfair to compare Pimax with Samsung. Pimax is so tiny small in comparison. They are pioneers. Thatâs all. And everybody who blame Pimax for being a pioneer should try to develop something new. Itâs just luck if everything works well. They often need to recall products and the first released products will newer be as good as they should be. Thatâs why everything is so fast in terms of development. They want to fight the big boys.
Yes it is a company which is selling products. But you need to keep it in mind: this company do their very best to keep everything in the right way. Try to help them and not blame them for sim unexpected problems. They know that there is a problem and they indeed want to be without any and make you guys happy.
I am really tired of reading all this Pimax blaming.
I also had problems with Pimax products. It took weeks to get it solved and we found a good solution for all. Be respectful and calm and then, it will go more smooth in the right direction.
Keep that in mind please. Thank you.
Pimax may be small, but they are not a startup company. One of their big claims during the Kickstarter was specifically that they werenât a startup because they had already produced and were currently selling their 4K VR headset.
Regarding the fiber cable, I also think it may be a good idea to include an extra USB 3.0 line. No Pimax headset to date seems to have a fully functional USB 3.0 implementation and the eye tracking module requires it to function properly from what I have seen.
@dmel642 Did you receive this email? Iâm trying to get to the bottom of whether this coupon code works for 8kX pre-orders from last year or not. The wording of the email is vague

It is still a startup. It doesnât end by selling things. Pimax is founded in the late 2015 early 2016.
They need to grow, make mistakes to learn how things are working. This status doesnât end with selling products. Itâs a process. You need to develop your company and since the fail rate is high, you are still a startup because itâs not running smooth.
Startup companies have also to develop their own internal system. The failure rate is high in terms of communication and products. If they have developed a system which can sort out these mistake, then they are not a startup anymore. It isnât referring to selling products or a time how long they are on the marked. As I said: itâs a process. Itâs a smooth transition from being a startup to be a competitive company.
To blame them what they have reached isnât fair in my eyes.
Really, they got it for FREE? Well then, the least they can do for us Kickstarter is cut the price in half lol. I might get it if they cut it in halfâŚbut at this price? Nah.
I do not see any offer from the website. It was a Black Friday offer from last week with a discount code. Or am I wrong?
The only one who will get it really for free are the winner of the 8kx event. Like me and two others.
Only NEW buyers of the 8KX get the optical cable for free. But I agree with @reptilexcq That kickstarter backers and early pre-order customers should get a coupon code if they want to buy the fibre optic cable.
It isnât shown on the website. I am not logged in there. And there is no hint of getting something for free. Where you got this information? Who told you this?
I only see the bundle information. Nothing else. The headset costs 1199⏠the deluxe audio strap isnât available. Tax are not included. More information isnât shown on the website. Even adding this to the chart doesnât change anything.
I guess this information of getting something for free is wrong unless you quote it where it comes from. As I said, by checking the website, nothing is popping up there. Therefore I guess itâs a wrong information.
So for the last time,is the fiber cable even on stock? @PimaxQuorra
Hello,
Yes sir, the cable is on stock, it has arrived at our Shanghai warehouse today.
Sincerely.
