I’m definitely no fan of Apple Iphones. However they do have a more polished OS due to limited Hardware configurations. That and they do have niceties in options.
That being said I prefer my Android phones due to it’s wide range of options when choosing a flagship phone as you have more options to choose from.

I guess some of my comments will be deleted in the coming hours too so I am trying to reach people before Pimax silence me. So your wish will come true for this risk not being mentioned. I understand your poiint of view because in the past I saw it the same way. But at some stage I just could no longer convince myself that Pimax are acting in a defendable way here, even if they feel their company is on the brink of bankruptcy. You just cannot decide to take down many more new customers because you did not manage to set up your business in a sustainable manner. This is as if you would steer your car into a crowd because your brakes malfunction in the hope that nobody will get killed while taking the risk that not only you and your passengers will die but also some of the crowd if your plan fails…
I have no interest in seeing Pimax fail, I wish for them to be successful, but at some stage they have stop making fun of us by telliung poor guys like @MaxMan23 that the base stations are being delivered within 3-5 days to then suddenly tell him he will not see them anytime soon. This is not an acceptable behaviour, and if they do it over and over again, at some stage the goodwill towards them has dried up.
This would have to be compared. The Audio Drivers are quite nice from the p4k. Have you tried the p4k Audio or just guessing?
BTW I am using all the suggested settings and added the extra line into steamvr settings file as well. HLA looks beautiful on the 8K X and runs smoothly without any framedrops with 75fps on my system. Picture and performance are not a problem here.
I absolutely (!) believe people that see no distortions. People have different perceptions and especially if you only use a single headset, your brain will get used to it.
After I used the 5K Plus as my daily driver for a long time I also didn’t see any distortions anymore. It’s after I changed to the Index as daily driver and got used to the absolutely distortion free picture that it offers that distortions in the Pimax headsets (not the Artisan though!) became very obvious again. Now I am in the position to do A/B comparisons with all the VR headsets on the market and you simply cannot deny the distortions.
Anyways, for current users of Pimax headsets that have no problems with the distortions, they also won’t have problems with the 8K X and will for sure enjoy the better picture. It looks amazing!
For all the others I simply recommend trying the headsets and doing A/B comparisons with the Index to find out which system is better suited for their personal perception, and what might be more important for them, high-resolution and huge FOV or distortion free picture and better than average FOV.
When talking about HLA it is not as simple as saying “the 8KX blows away the Valve Index in every single way, hands down.” That is simply not true. Refresh rate, distortions, audio (as compared to standard MAS) , colors are better in the Index and for some people that might matter, especially since all of that is even offered at less than half the price.

A wide range of factors comes into play. From physiology to number of headsets one uses. If you use only one headset it’s flaws become less noticeable the more you use it. Aclimatization.
For this kind of compare evaluation Doc-ok would best to evaluate as a leading expert.

Just need to say that colors in my 8k+ are noticeably better than my Index. In mine and anybody that has used my headsets opinion.
I think when things are almost at a comparable level then confirmation bias plays an important role and everybody sees what they want to see. Literally. (Against intuition, afaik there is more information going from high abstraction layers to low abstraction layers in the visual cortex. Meaning - the high level layer tells the low level one it’s expectation, and as long as the stuff that the lower level one sees isn’t completely falsifying this expectation, the actually received information from down-below isn’t even transferred to the higher level. So we have a neurological tendency to see what we want (expect) to see

Would be an interesting experiment. Telling a friend first that you have two headsets - one with super high resolution (8k-X/+) and one with far superior color reproduction (Index). And then (if he/she agrees on the better colors of the Index), tell, that you fooled around and that the 8k-X has actually both better resolution and better colors. Would be interesting whether the same person could even be convinced to change their opinion based on your statement of what is the common opinion/fact. Wouldn’t rule it out
(Haven’t seen either a 8k+ nor an Index, no clue whether it’s a close match. Just seeing that people coming to different conclusions, so might be close)
The core problem is the only consistency pimax has is Delays and pre selling product a month ahead of it’s scheduled release that leads months to year+ on delivering. Not a good reputation to establish.
Before rementioning Corona Virus. These dates of release were well before Corona outbreak. In Fact 20 units were supposedly reported by Robin no less ready to ship before CNY. So that being said even with needing a “small” change should have had first backer units shipping.
The Updates Robin said would be consistent would have been ontime as he committed to and promised updates from weeks ago would have been released.
Robin has no one to blame for speculations being made. If anything with the Corona Pandemic anyone knows people have more time to evaluate things.
Good proper communication as Robin Advertised is the best way to alleviate speculations.
There was no Stock for lighthouses in April 2019 this is just one of Kevin’s many misleading carrots. Lighthouses only came in Nov 2019 contrary to Kevin’s consistent posts that suggested otherwise.
But agreed on the other accessories that have failed to materialize. Corona was not a factior.
You are wrong on Index Controllers and Lighthouses. Though I do not understand why seperate Lighthouses have not shipped. That is baffling.
I have seen differently in Canada. Companies often do “cherry pick” contracts to fulfill and make provisions to extend other contracts or drop them all together and pay small releases.
This is an easy one. As you were once curious about my change in the past. Your frustrated at the lack of proper communication and the runaround that is apparent in place of promised open communication.
This is actually something that should be looked into as in the short term may not be an issue but over time could cause real issues. That is from having over 20+ years in Health and Safety.

I think what several are interested here is whether or not you tried the .json file in your 8KX that Sweviver posted. It seems that the distortion between the 8KX and Artisan should be similar, and not very different, which seems to be what you are experiencing now.
It’s difficult to ascertain, without hardware in hand, if there are actual physical build variances that can result in different distortion between the Artisan and 8KX, or if they are essentially the same optically, and should have similar distortion (or lack thereof) as Sweviver has indicated. Please confirm if you’ve added the new profile.

The risk has never changed. Just the perception of it. Hopefully pimax will start to show actions they are taking this seriously by there actions moving forward and alleviate these concerns with substance.

The auto resolution scaling in Half Life Alyx is a big problem for the Pimax headsets. As it hobbles the main advantage, especially of the 8KX.
