FS2020 VR + Pimax Discussion

There seems to be a difference when you use the CTRL+TAB shortcut or switch to VR via the button in the options.At least i experienced it.

Using the CTRL+TAB everything is jacked up. And I am looking at a “2D” image.

Using the switch to VR button in the options everything is super fine and I also don’t need PP.

@scud68 try this

@SweViver, I currently have a 2080ti (with a 9900KX CPU + 32G Ram).
Do you know if moving to an RTX 3090 will bring me more FPS in MSFS, and how much ? (I’m not asking if it worse the price :wink: )

Thanks I will. Fingers crossed

@scud68
Have you tried to launch the game out of the steam-vr room? That worked for me.
If I launch it from the desktop icon (while running steam-VR) I got similar weird images as you described…

That worked for me, thanks! (using the switch to VR button in game rather than control tab. took 2 goes but fixed it). I can now switch it with the control tab.
Now for the next challenge - to make it playable
Running at around 16fps with most of the settings and ss turned down. I think my CPU (Ryzen 2700x) isnt able to cope with this game

For all of you folks out there having a problem with the pimax (and other VR headsets) not beeing recognized. I found a solution that worked for me:

You need to set SteamVR as the default OpenXR runtime.

You can find the exact description here in this post:

Thanks @CptLucky8 for all the helpful posts!

If someone already has SteamVR & WMR plugin, It looks like we can just set the OpenXR runtime in (Steam VR > Settings > Developer menu), instead of the Registry or command prompt?

There is a button to “Set SteamVR as OpenXR Runtime.”
I could be wrong tho… but wanted to try FS on SteamVR also.

This one helped to get my pimax recognized and start SteamVR with the Microsoft Game Pass version of the game.

Never the less i need now to work on the other issues with the VR implementation (endless display mirroring when i look down in the airplane cockpit).

Hope this helps all you guys with the same problem (@SweViver @Dreamwriter @fransuske)

Best Regards

Launching vr in game using the launch vr button instead of control tab fixed this for me. Took a couple of tries.

Anybody found a solution adjusting “worldscale”? For me the cockpits are a bit too small…

I would say for most simmers who have not flown in a real airplane like Cessna before, it often comes as a surprise how small the real cockpits really are. To me it looks correct actually, at least the Cessna 152 and 172. The Cessna 172 cockpit is surprisingly small IRL. Thats the first thing I thought the first time I flew one (as a passenger only though, hehe). Kinda claustrophobic, and with two grown up men on each seat, its more or less shoulder against shoulder and no space between shoulders and the windows.

Quite a good example:

Having that said, I have always felt that the scale is maybe 5% smaller on everything in VR when using Oculus Rift, Index and HTC Vive vs any Pimax headet. Which is weird. Maybe its the FOV and perception… Its really easy to tell when playing Aerofly FS2 in VR.

dont you want the canted display view? for me the artifacts at the right side of the right view were gone when this occured but now for me its gone back and i want the canted view back any ideas?

i found launching the game thru gforce experience was better anyone care to test to prove me right or wrong

Disabling PP gives me huge FPS boost and the instruments are clearer.

Downside is artefacts at the edge. Guess it’s a compromise I’m willing to live with.

seconded too small and no pilot body

I own a private licence and can compare at least the 152, the 172 and the DR-400 of the Sim with their real life counterparts. For me, it is definetly too small. I know that it depends on the personal IPD and maybe other factors. It’s adjustable in the settings of Aerofly FS-2, DCS, etc. what helps a lot.

So first wish: I hope the Devs will add that “worldscale” feature in the future.
Second wish: The flight model in MSFS is still rubsih (no adverse yaw, no p-factor, stall behavior,etc.) I hope they will concentrate on that soon instead of inventing more “landing challenges”… :wink:

I had the same problem once. Switch to 9-axis and then restart service. Switch it back to Lighthouse and then restart service again. Should fix it.

i dont think thats a pp issue when i first started in vr i had the same annoying view in the right eye (jaggies) i started the sim in gforce experience and had the same view as sweviver. (canted display view)? the jaggies were gone and my experience was great a game restart later and im back to this

would love to get back to the correct view

Try “enter VR” via the option menu

i’m in VR already but either steam or ms2020 doesn’t see my headset as canted as per swevivers view above i did have this view once when i loaded the game via g-force experience but sadly no more

ps tried what you suggested with no luck but thanks for trying to help

What a dissapointment!!
I didn’t buy msfs 2020 waiting for the VR performance and implementation. I see that I was right.
We need PP (please sweviver contact with them and try to convince them to fix that), even with PP there are issues and bad performance. And, besides, FFR or DFR doesn’t seem to work.
So we have a nice 8kx but we can’t properly use it with msfs2020. Pimax should work closer with the best game studios at the moment.
Maybe all of this will improve. I hope so. Otherway it would not be in favour of Pimax headsets.
