Does the Windows version start with SteamVR?
I see some Oculus people are having some similar issue:
Any idea yet how the 5950x is comparing to top Intel CPUs? Better or worse?
I have the exact same issue, with my Pimax 8k+ : both eyes are yellow, and on screen there is two black boxes.
Note that previously I had the “no headset found” issue when turning vr mode on.
It solved when I select beta mode for steamvr, and I validated a message from steamvr asking to make it the default gateway for openxr that appears when I relaunched steamvr.
What a mess…
Dunno about Flight Sim or VR specifically, but the entire 5000x series is beating all current-gen consumer Intel CPUs for most tasks, especially gaming.
Better than all of the Intel CPUs, in basically any game or application. Despite lower clocks used. But still not enough ![]()
Seems to be the fix then, thanks!
Fix this one… But fall into the " yellow issue"

Note: I’m using the steam version of msfs, don’t know if this changes anything
I tried everything then remembered SweViver did a room setup, so I tried it, then when I ran the game it was even worse! However the scaling looked correct, noticed I had PP off so turned that on then everything was perfect, so maybe a room setup is the answer!
Hmm…I did have a Pimax room setup when it worked for me (not a SteamVR room setup though, unless it remembered my room settings from my previous computer…which it may have)
Wow, I was actually suspecting this, but yeah its weird lol…
Everyone:
Make sure to do a Room Setup in PiTool before starting FS2020 in VR
Not having room setup complete was my issue. This is working for me now.
Windows Store Install.
5900X
RTX 3090 Kingpin
Wow, I redid my room setup, which worked for everything else, and this fixed it! Also thanks for your older videos on DCS. I just built a new system with a 5950x with a 3090 and disabled all the AA settings in Nvidia, I’m getting a steady 75fps in both DCS and IL2 in native 8K mode.
Awesome
I guess its time for some new optimization videos soon. Gotta do some new research first!
Nice setup btw, same as mine
Im sure our rigs will be more than enough once FS2020 gets some more optimization and maybe a DX12 mode.
The good news is, it is getting more optimization soon. They said the optimizations they needed to do to make it work on an XBox Series X would also improve the base simulator performance.
Yep, thats our best hope
Im sure it will get better optimized than X-Plane11 and DCS ever got.
Im quite surprised it runs in 30-45fps (4K res) already on launch-day. Was not expecting that!
I am not so optimistic. Single-thread flight sims historically seem to have been staying that way through their entire life cycles, and it seems like FS2020 may have ‘inherited’ very old MSFS stuff here.
But as long as we can get 1.2x Total SR with native 8kX resolution, and a high enough frame rate not to outright break Smart Smoothing, I am happy enough.
@SweViver More urgently, how about 60Hz for the PRODUCTION 8kX?
For those of you who run MSFS 2020 through Game Pass and get a “Headset not detected”! I had the same problem until I went into SteamVR settings, Developer tab and switched “Current OpenXR Runtime” to SteamVR. Now it starts and I have some tweaking to do!
I did some testing on the France landing challenge. Without PP and FOV set to normal I was getting > 60fps turning on PP dropped me below 45 most of the time. Without PP the artifacts on the sides are just to distracting. SS was around 150. Dropping SS didn’t seem to help much either.
Has anyone found a VR zoom key? I can’t seem to find it. It will be a must so I can read taxi way signs.
That did the trick! Thanks all.
change in game settings - lower video ram consumtion
