From Skepticism to Success: A 12-Hour VR Racing Marathon with Pimax

When it comes to embracing virtual reality for sim racing, doubt is natural. One seasoned racer, Cheetah2kkk, with over 17 years of experience shares how the Pimax Crystal Light completely shattered his expectations during one of the most demanding challenges in competitive sim racing.

The Story: In His Own Words

Overcoming the " VR Hesitation"

"Six months ago, I would never have imagined sim racing in VR and not having any issues for a solid 12 hours of racing. I had friends with other headsets always complaining about issues in-game, and it put me in two minds. After a bit of research, I opted for the PCL over the Beyond 2 and other alternatives.

It allowed me to finally ditch my 4K 120Hz 3m projector screen setup which, TBH, took up an abundance of wasted space. Moving to VR allowed me to throw the sim rig into the corner and out of the way. It was a game-changer for my space."

The Stakes: No Room for Error

“I competed as Driver 1 for our 3-driver team. For those who don’t know how Assetto Corsa Competizione (ACC) works: if Driver 1 has a technical problem, everyone has to get off the race server. I was extremely worried that over 12 hours of constant use, either my PC would crash or the PCL would glitch out—impacting the whole team.”

The Performance: 142 Laps of Clarity

"The whole race went off without a hitch. We started 19th in ProAM class, and after a few usual in-race disasters, we finished 24th, and 2nd in class.

The PCL was comfortable the whole time. The in-game race started at 5 AM in the dark. The headset was absolutely fantastic with deep blacks and crystal-clear details at 5K full res. When the sun started rising over the Blue Mountains in the distance, the lens flare effects while turning my head into corners were absolutely stunning."

The Verdict: 17 Years Later, a New Peak

"Ultimately, this was the best, most immersive visual racing experience I’ve ever had sim racing, and I’ve been doing this for well over 17 years on projectors, curved screens, and triples.

Would I choose to use the PCL for another 12-hour sim race? Hell yeah."

A Note from Pimax

A huge thank you to Cheetah2kkk for trusting us with his Driver 1 stint. It’s stories like these that prove the Crystal Light isn’t just a peripheral. It’s a competitive tool built for the long haul.
