Looks kind of interesting - and cheap to buy (AU$14.11). Anyone used it yet? I’ve just bought it but can’t get to play with it “in anger” until later this week… Seems a bit fiddly to get started from what I can tell in the Steam discussions but I think that’s down to the dev(s?) not having a “beginner’s tutorial”…
Had a quick play with it by watching some music videos and using the primary display as the capture window… Not bad at all, almost impressive, straight out of the box, no fiddling. Certainly can be tuned to the nth. degree (a twiddler’s dream) but out of the box was fine with no effort.
On my CS micro OLED I needed to switch off HDR on my windows desktop otherwise the image was blown out because the desktop was HDR and the headset is HDR too. Might see if the dev can put an app specific switch for that rather than having to keep digging into the Windows Display settings every time I want to watch vids.
For the $$$ - well worth the asking price, no pain if not everything works as expected. Remember, some things may not play nice from flat to 3D (YMMV )
Wow, the developer is pretty active. Lots of updates over the last week or so, almost every day!
Gotta say, looking at the “Witcher 3 Remastered” and 'Songs of the Past" trailers on YT in pseudo-3D-VR is pretty neat. Pure VR would just make those games more impressive but this FlatVR certainly gives you an idea of what it could look like.
So easy to set this up. Once you’ve got it dialed in, no hassles. Switch on your headset, start up FlatVR, make sure you set your Primary monitor as the source, click “Start”, open your browser and head to YouTube and search for/watch videos. Next time you open FlatVR just click start and it uses what you last set. You can save your settings as FlatVR configs for games too once you get comfortable with it.
