Epic Games sues Youtubers Article Below.
GOOD!
Cheats and cheat providers/creators should get hard labour, with plenty of dropping soap in the showers situations
I renember a time when cheats\walkthroughs were published in Game Magazines like Nintendo Power & uf memory serves PCGamer.
It will be interesting to see how this goes; Since on one side “Reporting” on Game Cheats & exploits to the public also gives Game publishers a more direct heads up that there is a problem & how ppl are doing it.
I have observed though you need to even be careful with gameplay videos. Some game devs have removed this obstacle giving permission to record & stream gameplay.
Its a bit different when you could punch the cheating party right next to you if the cheats were on console.
Since then though, multiplayer cheats are big business, and creators of cheats make big bucks on this stuff. (See Law suits again blizzard vs cheat makers, riot vs cheat makers. Basically the creators Making tons of money on creating tools to breaking a game, and the TOS of services.
So instead of “Epic Games Sues Youtubers” it should be “Epic Games Sues Cheat Makers” but that isnt clickbaity enough.
These kinds of cheats has never been published by any game magazine, it’s good that people who sell cheats are getting prosecuted as they directly hurt business and other players.
Yeah but it’s not clickbait as Epic is suing the youtubers & not the cheat creators…
cheat distributor
Got me there, but the above would indicate hes gaining money from distributing the cheats. so maybe not creator, but still getting revenue from the cheats, be it ad money or sales sponsorship, which means he is still gaining money from the cheats.
Game magazines have reported on cheats being used good or bad so to speak.
Now maybe the youtubers provided links to cheat engines/bots. But a dev having the cheat should be able to better find a method to counter act it.
Usually though the cheats that magazines give out are just debug, or dev intended easter eggs that are put into the game on purpose.
They still do those, especially for single player games, but things go out the window once you talk about competitive multiplayer games:
“Cheats” nowdays usually talk about 3rd party software being used in multiplayer, that are sold:
- Aimbots, or Bots in General, that can be activated / deactivated on will for harder detection
- Shader mods tweaks for Wallhacks or Sound swap tricks
- Dupe, instakill, aimbot, or immortality via memory or packet manip through third party software
Usually such always ends up being an arms race, and usually the purchase of a cheat is a subscription,
and they can get quite crafty with avoiding detection by the software, especially if the game it self is free.
This is usually why auto-banners such as VAC, Battleye tend to be infamous because it will flag you as a cheater it will stick to you, even if it initially was a false positive: and they usually tend to try to gather as much data as possible on a suspect cheater and the tools they use before banning them (so where ever they are, they get away with it for a while ruining others experiences, until there are mass bans).
Ah the days of the Game Genie. Lol
Still if the cheats are bought, then it’s easier to find them & sue the creators vs suing folks saying where to find them.
Me? Never bothered with buying cheats since the original Game Genie.
Game genie doesn’t do what we are even remotely talking about.
It did at the time & there was that Cable Nintendo game channel.
Cheats are cheats whether it’s debugging functions that were not disabled on release.
Ie
Idkfa
Idchopper
Idclip
Etc… Bots are a problem & will likely never be eliminated without something like captcha(sp?) Type checks.
I knew a fellow that often got banned in fps games due to his high ability od what I call twitch gaming.
He could do headshot kills while falling or your falling. He was banned quite a few times back in Medal of Honor Allied Assault for them thinking he was using hacks. His Dad explained he had been computer gaming since he was 4 or 5 & to follow him in spectator mode.
The big thing here is really Epic is targeting a media source that publicized did a report on exploits with links & how to.
It would be like suing the news over a report where the info is misused.
I know exactly what the Game genie does, and no that’s not even remotely what is talked about here.
We are talking about exploits. Malware & viruses take advantage if exploiting weaknesses in software design this is no different.
Ok, show me anyone that’s been sued because of monetary damage done after using a game genie.
Show me an original Nintendo or Sega Genesis with online play or a monthly subscription?
The point is Epic Games is being like Digital Homicide. In Epic Games thing go after the creator’s of the exploits like Blizzard did. Not go after Youtubers & other media that is bringing light to it.
If there are links to bot scripts & such they are closer to the source & if it’s a subscription or purchase then the trail leads to the source.
I just had a look at Golden Modz’s channel, and he just seems to be a bit of douchbag, who trolls people for fun and views. The aimbot seems to be just one of the tools he uses to do the trolling. He doesn’t seem to be actively promoting any hacks by name. Unless any mention was removed.
Oh well, karma!
The youtuber in question gets money for selling cheats. He is just as guilty as the guy creating the cheats in the first place.
