Dream Air constantly being on has several issues

These devices need a complete power off function, like all prior Pimax headsets. Otherwise I’m seeing the below issues:

  1. Audio stack priority constantly shifts. You can mitigitate this in Pimax Play but then you have to manually choose Pimax Audio whenever you want to use the headset. My OG Crystal would just switch to Pimax audio when turned on and switch to desktop audio when turned off. So simple.
  2. Computer never goes to sleep. The DA being on all the time, even in so called low power mode, prevents the computer from going to sleep.
  3. Constant power draw on the controllers, because it’s apparently still being tracked even when the DA is not in use. This means far more frequent charging on the controllers. The OG crystal controllers (which are the same by the way!) lasted much longer between charging because the headset was off.

Also handles base station power up/down.

Is that how you turn off your TV and every other appliance in your household?

Nope. Just my Dream Air and Base Station.

Cool. Here’s an even easier solution:

My solution? Just turn off the mains power at the wall socket? I’m not leaving my lighthouse base stations switched on either

A simple “power off” function is all that’s needed. You know, the function that 99.99% of other devices have including Pimax’s own prior headsets (as shown in my screenshot)? And if the solution is to power it off at the socket, then why aren’t you asking why doesn’t it have a power off function in the first place? What’s next, when volume control is removed you’re going to say the solution is to move your ear closer to the speaker for volume up and move your ear away further for volume down?

I have a feeling the real reason there isn’t a power off function is due to a cost cutting measure. And the amount of shilling and brand defense is shocking for what is supposed to be a simple, standard feature. Next I’m going to recommend car manufacture’s not include door locks because you can simply slide in through the window Dukes of Hazzard style.

Flicking my power bar rocker switch to off solves all of this. Moving on.

Index hmd doesn’t have volume buttons it’s just set in software. Never been an issue using my Index

Don’t see a lack of power off as any kind of problem, it wasn’t a concern with the DA when I tested it

I never leave electrical devices on standby it’s a just waste of power; electricity isn’t cheap anymore

It’s an extra hassle to get a powered outlet to plug into an already existing powered surge protector that already powers the rest of the PC, and get down on the floor to turn it on/off each and every time you want to use a headset.

Sounds like Pimax should just put a powered function right there in the software eh? Just like they have it for the Crystal in my screenshot?

Why the deliberate stubbornness to not have it in the first place? Especially since you agree with leaving electrical devices on standby is just a waste of power (and also for the main three issues I mentioned). What’s funny is if you report this to Pimax like I did they will simply tell you to unplug it at the outlet…well then that begs the question WHY DIDN’T YOU INCLUDE IT IN THE FIRST PLACE? Circular logic banging your head on a wall. lol!

Just so everyone’s on the same page: are you wanting a solution, or are you wanting to criticize the software design choices? One the forum can help with, the second I don’t know that we can?

I agree a power off button would be very handy

I’m sure Pimax read these forums so the voicing concerns is helpful

don’t disagree…just saying that coming across as “YOU GUYS SUCK cuz you didn’t do what I think you should!” isn’t helping the point land any more effectively.

Is that what I said word for word? And even if I did, does it make it any less valid?

Do you know why Pimax consistently ranks low in customer satisfaction? And why it’s reliability rating is in the gutter?

Pimax has earned a reputation for over promising and under delivering, especially from since the OG Crystal launch. And for breaking features (smart smoothing, local dimming, etc.. ) And most recently, design choices that affects the quality of the product. If anything, anything we say is deserved.

And then you have paid shills defending Pimax on social media (I suspect they’re on here too).

The reason why Pimax continues to get away with fleecing the public is that people allow it, dismiss criticism, and come to their defense at all times. Just look at this thread for example.

Well, I for one am happy. I feel sorry for you, brother.

While I’d also like a simple power button to completely turn it off, I’m not having any issues.

The 8KX also used to have an LED light permanently on, although it didn’t get warm. Put up with that since 2019. The 5k+ was the last one I had that completely switched off.
