Probably have this post removed? Before I decided to purchase this VR Headset, I contacted Pimax and they said my PC specification was fine. I done a lot of research, YouTube, et. One YouTube vid was with a medium spec PC, same Intel CPU, Intel i9, 32gb ram, and RTX 3070, and although the frame rates were not super fast, the resolution, clarity and sharpness was superb. My PC was 64gb ram, and RTX3090 24gb video ram, very latest Nvidia driver. So I decided to buy one. What a disappointment, to say the least! After the setup, I could not believe the poor quality image, with severe shimmering, colour fringing on the edges. Pimax firmware/software updates, tried ALL the settings, Open XR enabled, tried 90 and 72Hz, tried all the quality settings, everything I could think of to no avail. All that Pimax support offered was to update the Play to 1.43.6. Nothing has worked! So the Pimax is back in its box, ready to be returned, for a refund. The Pimax diagnostic tool reports everything is OK? My Win PC is fine, starts quickly, and runs fine with NO problems. FS2020 in monitor mode is clear, very sharp and very acceptable frame rate. What a shame. I must be very unlucky!
You’re serious? An RTX 3070 on UW? LOL. I wouldn’t even recommend if it’s 4090.
The shimmering shouldn’t be possible unless you are manually setting a low resolution or the image quality by default is on auto. Even with a 5090 in my system it wants to render 0.94 instead of 1. So manually set your image quality in Pimax play.
I read that you did mess with all pimaxplay settings, I assume you’ve not touched steamvr setting yet? Unless you’re using openxr toolkit or something. Steamvr by default also has resolution set to auto. I recommend you to change automatic to advanced and set your resolution to 100% but I doubt you can run that with your 3090. You WILL run out of vram so you’ll have to reduce the resolution to reach a playable frame rate.
Yes I am serious because I have seen a YouTube video with a Super and a RTX3070. And besides I did contact Pimax BEFORE purchase with my PC spec. And when contacting Pimax technical support they said my system DOES meet with the Supers specification. Obviously, don’t expect the very ultra frame rates, and ultra graphics. Also, my retailer had sold several Super’s to customers with RTX 3 series. I done a lot of research, AND contacted Pimax. I also plan to upgrade my PC MB, CPU and a RTX 5 series very soon.
Yes I am serious.
No we are not in the habit of removing posts or comments without a very good reason I suspect you will find the community and pimax team members here will try and help resolve the issues you are experiencing. @PimaxQuorra may have some ideas
Welcome to OpenMR!
Returned the Crystal Super UW to seller. They tested it on their ultra fast PCs, and were having same issues, poor image quality, shimmering, colour fringing, et. They said the optical unit is indeed faulty.
But how is this possible I thought all the headsets were being shipped after rigorous testing where we have a factory test paper which is the first thing you see when you open the box which indicates PASS for every possible test ![]()
