Can we talk sim racing performance with the 8k?

Okay will stop mentioning they perform about the same with the same settings. :beers::wink::+1::sparkles:

Not withstanding my own comments above about 8k and 1080ti only, your report that iRacing only gets 75hz in race conditions (how many opponents?) with a 5k+ and 2080ti is very worrisome and doesn’t bode well at all for 8k expectations! And even when you back off on quality settings. Results like that are very useful in my decision process. I really want to stay with the 8k but it sounds more and more like I need to just give up on that notion.

So I take back my chastisement of other-than-1080ti comments. Sorry! I can extrapolate useful info from 2080 and 2080ti results. But no Asseto Corsa results please. It is much too easy on GPUs than PC2, rF2, or iRacing.

tested today with pc2, pc1 and iracing.
In all three parallel projection had to be on for a non-double image.
Pitools .90 at 100% SS. SteamVR SS was on automatic.
In PC2 i did race on the Nordschleife against 15 oponents. Average fps was about 65, lowest 50, peaks at 80 of course. It did not feel chuppy. Ingame ss was 100%. Other graphics settings between low and medium, grass off, car detail max., msaa low.
In PC1 i did race the same race, the performance was about 5 fps better. Did not check the graphic settings.
In Iracing i did again the same track (track only) and similar cars (i like to drive old formula cars with H-shifter).
Resolution was at 2160x1200. Graphics mostly low and medium. No oponents. FPS was around 70 in the pit, dropping to 50ies while driving but barely noticed it.

Hope that helps.

SDE was there, but for me a non issue.

Just played The solus project for three hours straight and the experience was epic. For the first time i did notice the much bigger fov immediately.
Also tried Borderland 3 with vorp-x and it was amazing. Vorp-x needs parallel projection on, too, so fps were between 40 and 50 but at 1920x1200 with fxaa ingame on. almost all natural fov covered - wow. a little choppy though. But all at Ultra/max. so room for some more fps there.

I also tried all the racing games in small fov and have to say that you can see both mirrors in the formula cars at the same time clearly. So if you mainly drive those kind of cars go for the small fov in pitools to gain some fps.

Thanks a bunch mr.uu. Sooo much to consider…

That’s interesting because my Vive always feels “chuppy” when it drops below the desired/required 90hz.

If you want to stress test in PC2 go for Azure Circuit/Monaco, full grid in the rain at night…see if it brings your gpu to it’s knees.

Don’t think I need a stress test to know the answer to that! :grimacing:

Can someone please give impressions on how Assetto Corsa runs in the 5K+ at the 170º FOV on a 1080Ti? Can you achieve 90fps solid?

Nop, every thing else runs fine, I over clock to the max on GPU and run all my other game and stuff ok, its only elite that I have to down clock the GPU.
Mind you I have not tried the new 3.3 update yet.

Have you tried running the 3DMark benchmark? I had a stable OC for everything including ED, but not 3DMark. I dropped my OC settings a little bit and now EVERYTHING (I’ve tried) runs without issue.
