Question i’m still setting up my new 5k not new to vr i can get very clear image except for my right eye a bit blurry and if i look to the right just a bit it gets very clear i’m at min ipd and software ipd makes no difference it almost feel like the lens is dirty in that spot but its all clean any idea my ipd is 63
Thats just how the pimax headsets are due to the lenses and canted displays, its impossible to have both eyes clear at the same time.
@geoffvader are you serious?
The problem seems to be IPD related. This is what I see when my IPD is set too low (i have 69.5). Are both of the lenses moving correctly when you adjust the IPD? @Rog123
Yes I’m serious, its exactly why my 5k+ has been sat in its box the last 8 months waiting for a return shipping label.
If you have been waiting 8 months for a shipping label, then you have definitely done something wrong.
Ok. So if its impossible to have both eyes clear, how come there are thousands and thousands of people not having this issue? Do you know your IPD?
Yes you’re right, its entirely my fault that pimax havent been shipping backer rewards.
I’m not sure what rock you’ve been living under, but it was all over the forums for months that people cant get both eyes clear - people have been using all sorts of foam and HTC parts to try to improve the situation but with a loan unit I can’t very well be hacking it about to try to get it to work so i gave up.
From what I and others have experienced, yes it is an IPD issue, my IPD is 64 (as measured by my optometrist) but if I set my Pimax to this one eye is very blurry, I can fix that eye by sliding the headset to one side but then the other eye becomes blurry. I have tried adjusting both physical and software IPD in both directions and this does not fix the issue, with the cloth strap and default face foam it is not possible to fix the issue.
My headset also disconnects after about 10-20 minutes which makes using it nigh on impossible, I raised tickets to get support and I was requested to have my PC on with teamviewer running, which I did and then never heard any response, so again, I gave up, put it back in its box and have been waiting for my 8K-X to come.
Sorry for your issues, a technician will assist you shortly, thanks.
Sounds nice, what is shortly? And how will that be aranged with @geoffvader?
Just a question
Thanks for your answer sweviver by the way i’ve been following you on youtube for a while i just tried it again with my favorite sim iracing i’ve set the mechanical ipd to min and by pushing on the right one a bit i was able to move it just a bit now it’s almost perfect super clear in iracing coming from odyssey plus the image his just has good and the sweet spot much larger but the fov on large for racing sim is a game changer i wich we could have a mechanical ipd setting a bit smaller but i’m very happy i’ll keep testing
He’s an 8kX Backer. He’s waiting to return the loaner.
Truth is Geoff is & isn’t correct. For some yes they cannot bring both eyes into focus. And yes there is a relative potential high number but not as high as some believe it to be.
Please dont take this the wrong way,
BUT ever since I started watching your videos, way back in the HTC Vive days, some thing that struck me as odd and I could never quite put my finger on what is was, then one Day My wife just happened to look at My monitor and commented, and these are her words not mine, “How can that guy review VR, his eyes are not straight”, So there you have it, every time I watch your videos now, I see, NOT ALL THE TIME, but every now and then that one of your eye dose not line up with the other one, it is canted outwards very very slightly.
Perfect for the Pimax
Yes it’s been an issue for many of us. I think it’s a large contributor to my eyestrain and brainstrain. One eye can be in focus, the other not, so that my eye muscles are struggling to bring the unfocused one into focus and my brain is trying to pull it all together. Then I shift my gaze and suddenly the focused eye is not focused, the unfocused eye is focused and the brain is struggling to understand what is happening and how to deal with it.
It’s why I get a sigh of relief when I switch to another hmd.
Given there’s lots who don’t report this as well I put it down to QC and getting a bad hmd, but that doesn’t leave those of us who got this problem better off.
Well I haven’t experienced any blurry image on either side, but eyestrain yes. Never got rid of that completely.
That said waiting for the comfy kit+Mas will try again.
I have the same problem because of pimax claiming that the ipd goes to 55 when really it doesn’t go below ~61 as such i can’t do it. Its an issue with the lenses, unlike other hmds the sweet spot is quite far inside the lens and the inner part gets blurry very quickly as such my “central-ish” vision is crystal clear but the inside part where the most significant binocular overlap is is blurry in one or the other eye which makes it uncomfortable as the brain/eyes try to compensate for it. It appear clear at first glance, its not until you close either eye do you see the huge difference in clarity between them (that doesn’t exist in the real world, I’m blessed with v good eyesight).
I’m hoping the new housing and comfort kits improve this (by moving eyes slightly further away and by allowing it to sit better on the face reducing hmd movement)
Has he fixed the steamvr.settings file in Steam/config/ ? The 4096 limit is back in all SteamVR channels both beta and release…
What’s that file never heard and what does it do?
Yeah supports 60 to 72(?) Mechanical ipd & self adaption 55 to 75.
Self adaption shouldn’t have been an advertising point. As some may adapt & some may not even with soft ipd adjustments.
This is actually a problem even in Soft ipd only headsets ie Lucky Palmer’s comment about the Rift S not being usuable by him due to his high ipd.
Read this for more info: How to exceed the maximum resolution of 4096px imposed by SteamVR
Thanks i’ll try it onight
Ah, I kind of noticed this at the Orlando meetup. I couldn’t seem to get both eyes perfectly clear at the same time. I could shift my eye to the left/right and get one eye in focus but the other was slightly out of focus. If I positioned it just right it was okay I guess. My IPD is rather small. Perhaps Pimax should try to increase the IPD range by a mm or two. It might help people with smaller IPDs like me. Judging from the extreme IPD mod someone did to their headset, it should definitely be possible. Could this be added in the new headsets? Very little needs to be changed for just a mm or two extra IPD judging from this mod. https://www.reddit.com/r/Pimax/comments/bq4q8f/extreme_ipd_mod/
