I just tried it there, blew me away. It was an uncanny experience like I felt at one moment like they literally were there, was quite something.

I really hope that codec they developed gets licensed out and used beyond just their app, it’s fantastic.

Haha that’s awesome @SmallBaguette I felt exactly the same. First time I really felt someone in VR was actually really there. Quite a milestone in VR, happy to see we’ve come to this.

Hey @Djonko thanks for the nudge! I do have a testflight access to the app and 100% agree, the visual quality is astounding and imo better than what Apple themselves have shown so far.

This has unbelievable potential. I mean, watching a private concert in this quality is already a compelling proposition. But imagine what will happen once ‘content producers’ have access to this quality of camera as well as software. Insane.

So it seems Ivry’s SteamVR driver is pretty close to its release: https://x.com/iVRy_VR/status/1898844763324821954

It already works flawlessly running SurrealTouch controllers with the AVP using ALVR.

No kidding, in terms of times spent in a headset, the AVP has fully replaced all my other HMDs. Not even the XR-4 has enough appeal to me by now to hold on to - I’m selling all other HMDs (except OGVive, Rift and Index for emotional keepsakes).

I use the AVP for media consumption, work (both natively and via Virtual Mac), room scale VR and simracing and it does each job well enough to not cause any friction of use.

Hmmm I’ve been less lucky with ALVR. Initially got it to work but the image had some anomalies like some color incorectness sometimes and it seemed quite slow at times. It also just crashed every now and then. And then it just stopped working alltogether. That being said, it was a bit older PC I was running it on with a 3090. Just installed a new (beast of a) PC and put my 4090 in it, will try again with ALVR soon, if you say it works that well I must have been doing something wrong! Either way I’ve always been a fan of iVRY so will be interesting to compare the 2 options.

How do the SurrealTouch controllers work? I still have my PSVR2 lying around and I have hope that I can use those controllers with the upcoming Vision OS3 update.

BTW what keeps holding me back from using the AVP for longer sessions mostly is the weight of the thing. Even though I’m using custrom straps which help a lot, it just starts feeling heavy after a while. I think at this point that’s the biggest downside of the headset for me. Other than that it’s pretty damn good.

Honestly can’t wait for Project Moohan. Even some higher resolution than the AVP if we may believe the leaks, even better colors and hopefully a bit less weight. Really looking forward to that, supposedly due for this year.

Yeah iVRy is quite the dev. Pimax should contact them and give needed info and they could likely complete the PC streaming for both Crystal Standalone and portal view.
