Advice on extreme IPD mod?

I wear contacts. And my Oculus quest 2 is crystal clear. So its not my vision.

That is just incorrect. First it’s considerably less than that and second the lenses are canted so the calculation is more complex than a simple distance measurement. I have never seen a person with an ipd of 64 where the issue was lack of adjustment real estate.

My IPD is 58 and I can get it into focus adjusted into the smallest IPD. It is likely if you cannot achieve clear focus at IPD 64, your issue is almost certainly not IPD related.

That said… in some cases the extreme ipd mod could help anyway because simply having a greater range of distances across the lenses gives you in effect more real estate to adjust your *positional focus through the lens. In some cases the issue was alignment of the panels at the factory and that can potentially correct for that.

I suggest the following:

  1. look into individual alignment of vertical IPD and see if using the software to move it up or down on individual eyes improves your clarity.
  2. Slide the back side of your headset so that the bottom of the plastic almost touches your neck. Rotate it as far as possible and see if this changes the angle enough to improve your view.
  3. Try changing the distance to the lenses, manually move it directly closer and further away too see if thicker or thinner foams can solve the problem.

Indeed @Yen ipd guide is quite detailed. However there are setup issues for a wide variety of users due to no proper Ipd setup Wizard and design issues.

How is the presentation coming for the 12k?

What are the steps you take for IPD 58 on the 8KX for yourself? I really like the headset but I can’t handle the blur and I seem to be IPD 58-60 myself, which foam did you use etc?

I have helped a large number of people setup and found that IPD really isn’t usually the determining factor. It’s the facial structure and position of your eyes. I’ve had people who have a very low IPD regularly get it perfectly clear and then a person shows up with like an IPD of 65 who can’t. Since the lenses are canted it’s also not as easy to calc a universal ipd value to calibrate to.

That said…
For myself I use the dial all the way to the left and it’s clear for me at 58 but there are people who are very sensitive to other factors.
I use a method similar to the steps MRTV uses here:

When calibrating for customers who have trouble the only difference is I also use small text and calibrate with the software starting in the center. But really his guide is great and will work for most people and his version also calibrates real world object positioning vs. virtual to combat fatigue.
