I believe I tracked Pimax‘ statements on the eye-tracking stretchgoal during the KS campaign quite closely as I was intruiged if they would really promise eye-tracking capable of DFR, and they treaded carefully and I seem to recall that they never promised that it indeed would be such high-end eye-tracking.
Natural progression ? Yeah sure, and getting 16K displays would be too, but that doesn‘t mean that you can assume you get it if it was never promised, so I don‘t understand that remark in response to what I said. They could have given us 10 Hz eye-tracking usable solely for menu control, etc., that‘s the whole point. I don‘t remember them really promising the high-end version of the eye-tracking during the campaign.
One dime for information on what happened behind the screens to explain the dramatic change in attitude of the Greek sun of this forum…
Maybe Pimax engineers acknowledged that without ET+FR gaming at 4kx2k per eye makes 2080ti the min spec gpu, wastly reducing potential userbase. 7invensun ET cost 150$ for 120hz variant, I think that for 300$ they are 240hz version. Maybe on Pimax day 2 they demo it. If they make 8kx run well on 500$ gpu(2070s) Pimax may have a future, beyond pcmasterrace simmers…
If DFR is done with Eyetracking on GTX & AMD then yes will be quite an acheivement. Atm though it is likely like FFR only utilizing RTX feature.
Remember pimax did say they were working on FFR for 10series & AMD.
DFR simply atm likely means RTX driver FFR utilizing Eyetracking. But 2bh FR via Game Devs is more needed as we know FFR driver level will never be as good as Native. No different than Filmed in 3D vs converted to 3D.
DFR will be decent like RTX FFR driver for games that can work with it.
Dynamic Distortion correction using Eyetracking will be a real huge benefit to a larger scale as it may eliminate distortion to a greater degree.
And yes pimax’s eyetracking was aiming for more than menu selection. Surely you remember FR & possibility to use for Dynaminc Distortion correction.
I do remember that the question was asked several tmes, but I don‘t recall that Pimax confirmed during the KS campaign that their free-of-charge eye-tracking stretchgoal would be good enough to allow for DFR.
You got any links to show they actually did ? I am not ruling it out as there was a lot of communication but Inthought I paid attention to this particular point at the time and then said to myself ´see, Pimax are avoiding to confirm this time and again, so it most likely will be a low-end solution not suitable for DFR - but hey, what should you expect if it is like the 5th stretchgoal, for free´.
FFR is quite unexciting and may be served by low-end eye-tracking, if that is required at all. Dynamic distortion again was not that exciting to me, and I have no idea which performance level of eye-tracking that would require, but it seems that a much lower level should suffice. DFR was what got people excited, and that wasn‘t promised. This is why I fail to fully understand the anger some have vented here. Wet dreams are nice, but just a slight bit of attention could have kept them in check…
But I am happy to learn my memory is betraying me, of course.
Foveate Rendering was mentioned as was using eyetracking for dynamic distortion correction.
Combining Nvidia driver level FFR with eyetracking is not s stretch after getting Nvidia RTX feature working.
So again why are you hooked on a feature that is likely a minor upgrade to FFR in the RTX cards? If they can demonstrate DFR on Amd & GTX 9 & 10series cards. Then yes that will be something.
Nowhere was it said that the Free Eyetracking stretch goal would only do menu selection & detect ipd. Foveate rendering was in that mix. If you can do RTX driver FFR combining eyetracking to get DFR is not a leap. As said if they demonstrate that DFR is not dependent on RTX than yes it’s actually something.
But your right if folks that chose to back due to 3m Stretch goal Free Eyetracking. We might not have unlocked the 4m stretch goal of choice of 2 full controller types both having Sense.
Oh sorry forgot they changed the Controller Stretch goal details as well.
So now they owe us everything they did not exclude ?? Not the kind of logic I usually apply in my dealings with others…
So what about reasoning that 2x4K would also be included if they were to deliver 2x8K ? So let’s demand that too. Or let me try another one - did they say anywhere that the device will not make Espresso ? No! Hey, just found us another one, hooray.
The question about Foveated Rendering capabilities was put to them repeatedly at the time and it became rather obvious that they were not going to commit to it. I got the message.
Seems a communication thing then, he. It’s late over here. Let‘s keep it simple and agree to disagree.
2 stretch goals rendered Empty. As said DFR is simply Eyetracking being used most likely with RTX FFR. Now if it is not required to have an RTX card to use DFR then it is something.
Foveate Rendering was in the mix & like FoveVR would need Dev support. This was in the planned eyetracking. DFR is just a possible bonus if it is not dependent on RTX.
Now while were on this. I was asked about the 3m Stretch goal. I suggested a general $100 coupon; but pimax chose to “give” offer free eyetracking cause Backers said they didn’t want a coupon. The key being they chose.
Now if the Delay on controllers means they are indeed releasing both controllers with sense?
But yes let’s agree to disagree on the value of integrity & honor.
Who knows maybe pimax will surprise us yet & bring real compromise. Like at least allowing folks to use Wireless coupon as a generic coupon towards eyetracking & Controller switch.
I cannot find the original article I read but basically I am extrapolating like so. They want a gear vr mobile replacement which will likely be using their inside out tracking solution(Rink controller) to compete with Quest, they will have an Odyssey+ upgrade with likely their new tracking tech vs wmr. And the XR augmented reality system of some kind.

I there is anyone who could rival Oculus VR pricing on hmds its definitely Samsung. But with PSVR 2 around the corner I am curious to see which way gamers go. There are so many choices for upcoming headsets now that is quite dizzying.
But I am definitely holding off on a next gen upgrade until we have eye tracking and higher rez rgb OLED or microLED panels. I just cannot stand LCD.
