8KX DisplayPort Connection Failure

Im in the process of hooking up my 8KX to my 5090/13900kf PC to see just what kind of frame rate I can achieve and just to relive that good ol’ wide FOV goodness.

So I have the 8kx properly plugged into my PC but the software (PiTool and Pimax Play, tried both) does not see the DisplayPort (Setup Guide shows “DisplayPort Connection Failure”. So I opened up a ticket with Pimax and after some back and forth they say it needs repair or replacement. When I put the headset up to store a couple years ago it worked fine and has been safely stored since then.

I have a brand new 5K+ cable that requires the power transformer, I also have a 5VDC power supply with the proper barrel connector. So can I use the 5K+ cable with the 5VDC power supply without damaging my 8kx? Pimax says it will cause issues but that may be because of the 12VDC power supply that is used with the 5K+.

Any suggestions, thank you

The original 8KX cable does not include a power adapter, correct? If that’s the case, the 5K+ cable will not support the headset.

If you’re encountering a DP connection error (I believed it is the error 10600 code), the root cause may be a known issue—recent NVIDIA drivers are not compatible with the 8KX.

Thank you. Which Nvidia driver version for the 5090 currently works with the 8KX? Im using the latest driver and I also tried the version just before.

Check this thread:

It is supposed to work with the 566 driver release, but that version is not compatible with the RTX 5090.

Thanks for responding!

I have downloaded the recommended Pimax Play software and GPU driver. I still have no DisplayPort connection.

I do have a 5vDC power supply for the 5K+ cable. Can I use it just to test if I have a bad cable?

Check whether your original 8KX cable has a power supply. If it doesn’t, then the 5K+ cable won’t support it.
