8K-X, Vega 64 & PiTool: 'driver is too small'

So I’m still waiting for my Nvidia RTX 2080 S to arrive and Pimax Eyetracking, and got fed up waiting having a brand new 8K-X never unboxed for weeks.

So to test the headset screen is functioning, I tried plugging my 8K-X into my HTPC with AMD Vega 64 GPU on Windows 10 with all the latest Windows updates and AMD drivers. Installed latest Steam, Steam VR, and latest PiTool and updated it.

Unfortunately when trying to use the 8K-X
it crashes the PC if turned on, or I get a message in PiTool in saying “the driver is too small” and it crashes afterwards anyway. By crash, I mean the PC physically turns off, not a Microsoft BSOD.

I’ve tried different USB ports and it makes no difference.

PC spec:
Windows 10
ASROCK X299M Extreme 4 motherboard.
2x 360 EK radiators
16GB 3200 DDR4 memory
Intel Core i7-7800X CPU (Skylake-X)
1200w PSU

Projector is faux 4K and Windows 10 is set to 4K resolution with HDR on.

It’s not a disaster, but it would be nice to see if the headset is working or not and I just wondered what the Chinese translation of a driver being “too small” means.

AMD Vega 64 GPU has (3x DP, 1x HDMI).
My setup is.

1x DP occupied to 8K-X headset.
1x DP occupied to AV Amp which returns to 4K Projector. E.g. I’m not using 8K-X with a monitor but a projector that is fed by a 4K A/V amplifier.
1x DP not occupied.
1x HDMI not occupied.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Hmm, have you tried to use it only with a normal monitor? Without the projector.
maybe the card thinks you’re using extended screens.
