As long as you remember it was you who ordered card and PSU, it’s not as worse…
Although the 10900 CPU is great, usually the 6800XT would be optimal on a zen 3 CPU. Having said that.
The RTX 3080 demands $50 more but the Nvidia is better across most professional applications. I’d pay the extra $50
I have msi gaming x trio 3090 and you should definitely do undervolting. It’s gonna take 15 seconds and will drop power usage by a ~100 watt. Temperatures drop by 12*C. Zero fps drop in VR.
Before undervolting on stock: max power usage 378 Watt
After undervolting: max power usage 290 Watt
Here are the stable values:
Open msi afterburner
Lower core slider to -200Mhz
Press CTRL + F
move up only 850mV to 1845MHz
Press APPLY
Enable custom Fan Curve. This is very important. Don’t use default fan speed curve.
Set +200Mhz on memory
Everything stable after one week in iRacing and ACC.
Does this affect the warranty?
No, it’s completely normal thing to do and won’t void warranty.
MSI even recommend to use “msi afterburner” for OC.
In a box with your card there will be attached “manual” by MSI with instruction how to overclock. They’re literally showing you how to do it step by step
Just don’t do auto scan OC (they’re also showing how to do it). It’s automatic overclock with one button but you will get better results doing manually with my guide.
And remember, with the current generation cards it’s almost impossible to do something bad during OC. if you push core or memory clock too much, your gpu will freeze and return to default setting after PC restart. It won’t let you damage itself ![]()
Undervolting is “safe overclock”, because you do not push gpu to the limits. It’s opposite. You are looking at what minimal voltage gpu will be stable so it’s gonna work for longer and more efficient.
here is the video how to do it in 30 second. 825 wasn’t stable for me, that’s why I recommend 850mV.
You’d have to read the fine print, but it shouldn’t. AFAIK, under-volting poses no risk to your hardware (unlike extreme overclocking). Since you are running the GPU at a lower voltage and reduced temperature, it should actually increase the life of your video card.
One may wonder, why they do not configure it this way out of the box…
Sounds good! I will definitely give that a shot. OF course, my card did NOT arrive today-. and I’ll be out most of tomorrow doing medical stuff. So I’ll wind up going to Purolator to claim that dang thing on Thursday probably. Oh well. Worse things happen at sea.
Little adjustment:
It depends on the manufacturer whether OC/UV voids warranty or not.
=> So better check first on your card’s manufacturer’s site what’s okay and to which extent ![]()
And yes: Here, you are talking about Undervolting ![]()
But in case of any damage, customers certainly will have to proove it has not been the UV (or OC)… There are manufacturers who only tell how fair they would behave - but as soon as there is any dispute, they get harsh and “conservative”.
But, indeed, the risk of damaging anything with undervolting is negligible ![]()
Pimax will be the only one do do the “advising” thank you. ![]()
Who are you to say that? Buy a ladder and get over yourself.
Good grief.
Lol Take it easy. It was an “Inside Joke”
Pimax’s catch phrase for the last 3 years with all of their updates is
“Please be Advised”
Ah. Ok… sorry.
I’m not an insider.
My new power supply and Nvidia 3090 are installed and working! I’m not as think as I stupid I was! Anyhow I’m gonna try the under volting thing tonight and then we’ll see how things benchmark!
Damn it. nVidia is up to their old tricks again. At this rate expect rtx 4000’s to cost what 2000’s cost.
hopefully AMD will keep them honest this time.
Because quite frankly if the 6800 was out 2 years ago I guarantee the prices would have been different.
I’m sorry if I sound rude but I quite do not understand why is it a good idead to undervolt a 3090 ?
If i can pay 1600 $ for a card, why would i even think about the extra 100 W power comsumption ?
My 3090 ran at stock speed only for a few benchmark and then i crank it up for + 180 core and 250 memory.
It’s running perfectly max settings 150 SS , hdr everything on max in iracing at 144hz 8 x AA without any problems.
At stock sometimes fps were droping in the high 130
It’s not rude at all
today I had similar discussion in other topic. So let me paste my previous answer.
(I did undervolting and he did high OC +170 Core and +1130 memory)
"My port royal benchmark score is 13907 with undervolting.
You got 14225 with very high clocks, power draw reaching limit (probably ~400W or more), temperature goes higher, electricity bill going up and lifespan of your gpu will be shorter. And you did all of this to get ~2% more than me.
You got only 2% more but at what cost.
In VR 2% means you will get ~1 fps more…"
What’s the point @vicot?
*3090 are the worst cards for OC and everybody got similar bad results. They are excellent for undervolting
Holy moly 800W!!! This is crazy
but winter is coming so why not
Yet his 800W got ~9% better score than my undervolted 290W
Still I’m not quite sure 510W more for 9% gain is a good score
