TRS80 and then eventually the tape drive to go with it. Not having to type in your game first…luxury.
A BBC acorn master 128 with 512 dos board.
Still have this computer in working order
The tape recorder is gone though.
And Elite on floppy disk.
Commodore 64
My first pc was a 286 DX 2. It was some uncommon motherboard with 8mb ram!! all other 286s of friends had only 4mb. I was so proud.
Started with a C= Vic 20 then a 386sx16 with 10megs of Ram. 4megs dram on mb & 2meg ram isa expansion board & 4megs 30pin sim Ram on isa expansion board. Also had 10 Isa cards in a 7 expansion slots.
Commodore 64 with cassette drive. I always wished I had an Amiga (or at least a floppy disc drive for the C64) but we couldnt afford it hehe…
Then later on my parents had a 386 and 486 at home, but my first “totally mine” PC (that I was sooo proud of) was an IBM Aptiva Intel Pentium 75Mhz MMX with 8Mb RAM and 840Mb hdd that I later on upgraded with 24Mb ram, S3 Virge DX and Voodoo 1 (Monster 3D). A true gaming machine lol
I feel nostalgic now…
Hi @SweViver. my first purchased computer was a Zeos 386 with an amber colored screen monitor. The computer was sold and built in Minneapolis Minnesota. I remember playing a game called “Where in the world is Carmen Sandiago”. At the time I was taking a required course in COBOL at college for a business degree. Unfortunately I didn’t sustain the interest and went another route.
I wonder how people can complain about the current state of gaming and VR ? From my perspective such an attitude boggles my mind. I seriously think that some alien technological intervention has taken place since that time. For me an example is the game Skyrim VR, the magic is almost to good to be true and no way human from my experience.
I totally agree, the technology has moved forward really fast, its incredible. And think about what we will see in the upcoming 5-10 years!
Oh yeah, while I have this great opportunity, I would like to thankyou @SweViver for all your work both Testing Pimax 8k and bring excitement and interest to VR in general with your youtube video’s stay positive my friend.
yay for common ground posts to move on from previous topics!
I’m 42, I think the Apple IIe my parents got when i was in elementary was my first experience where I really became fascinated with computers. Anyone remember mashing the buttons on the old Olympics game for that? Fast Forward to College and my first personal computer purchase was an eMachine… playing Half Life on that for the first time was simply amazing! Close to then is when Moore’s Law was kicking it into full-effect for GPUs, good times (if I forget how much CC debt i got into due to Moore at that time)!
My first personal computer was an Asus laptop. The first computer I used, was probably one of those really old Dell computers. The first handheld I had was a Gameboy Advance SP. The first console I used was either an snes/nes or an n64.
Thank you so much @Fresco, Im really glad to hear that and I appreciate your support!
Ouch, it’s quite a long list…moved my first steps on my father’s CBM 8032 (also known as C= PET) then I got my VIC 20 for my 7th birthday, then C= 64 then 128 then Amiga 500, owned almost every Commodore machine at the time before moving to other platforms in my sixteen
