VR Days starting shortly

He answered it on MRTV recording, not sure if it made the cute do, for now no 5m is max but they have a new Cable that should be the final version and when SweViver had that he would test to add 2m more.

Where I have noticed it has been with ground and sky texturing in both Il2 Great Battles and DCS. Also at 1.75 with hand altered SteamVR Vid setting of 25% - there seems, on the 8K to be better clarity and more vibrant colours with no colour banding.

I wonder if the PiTool Render setting affects the down-sampling and compressing of graphic info for the transmission up the cable to the 5K and 8K and the higher settings let more info through using different techniques.

Need Kevin @PimaxUSA to clarify exactly what is going on there although - maybe when all is open sourced - others will get to see (if they open that part of it up).

@Pimel - My understanding was that supersampling from PiTool occured above PiTool Render target of 1 and that at 1 you were running there on abouts native res with 0.75 and 0.5 being subsampled. Then again - given the moving target that is STeamVR development - who knows.:exploding_head:

@SweViver I do appreciate the work you have done and your insights - your though the lens video examples have been great.

It just irked me when MRTV asked about performance the way the question was responded to which could potentially put of a market segment who would really benefit from what PImax is doing. An alternative answer might allude that some titles might need settings turned down based on what fps a user might be comfortable with. I think user with GTX 1080Ti or RTX 2080 will get a lot of millage out of the 8K+ and 8K-X.

Did I mention I am looking forward to the 8K-X???:+1:

That still doesn’t answer my question if it can do extension or wireless in upscaled mode or in reduced fov native mode as is.

That’s because they simply don’t know.

They are expecting a cable revision that would make it work durably in the 1st place, once that is confirmed they can start looking into extensions.

And from the sounds of it, wireless isn’t happening anywhere before Q3/Q4 2020, so I for one am not factoring this in right now. Might happen, might not.

With part if NO it dont work did you not understand? next part is that they are making a new Cable that is the finished Cable and when that come they will test if they can extand that one.

Because they didn’t explicitly say they even tested those options and those options make complete sense to try as they have a lower bandwidth requirement.

Iā€˜m close to certain running the X as a + will allow for easier extension because, as you said, the signal carried requires less bandwidth. The same goes for the feasibility of wireless.

Did you guys know the 8K-X has a cable design that the other Pimax headsets don’t have and it’s not interchangeable?

Thought I’d mention it as it means you can’t remove a cable that may be longer from the other Pimax headsets (e.g. extension cable) and reconnect/solder it to the 8K-X, as it won’t work.

I’d like them to simply try this officially (sweviver) and let us know so we can make a purchase decision.

Sweviver said he can’t see any reason in theory why the 8KX in upscaler mode (which we know nothing about yet ie we don’t even know the current latest version in his hands can even switch mode, let alone test that mode with an extension) wouldn’t support the same options as the 8K+ - but it will be down to the engineering team to fully test and prove that.

Once the final cable arrives, which is expected in a few weeks, hopefully they can get that done quickly.

Pretty sure he said in the MRTV impressions stream that it’s a toggle in PiTool (native/upscaled)?

OK yeah that rings a bell, but I don’t remember him saying anything about actually using or testing that mode. So whether it’s actively usable isn’t clear to me

ā€œYou can switch it directly in PiToolā€ (points to computer where PiTool if obviously installed) 14:00:

Mmmm sure I mean we can’t make any judgement about extension or wireless compatibility compared to the 8K+ from that. Haven’t heard anything specific about testing the 8KX upscaler mode and whether the same features work. It behaves the same in theory as 8K+ until we know more :+1:

I’m not saying that… But I sure am hoping!

It just sounded like You didn’t think switching modes worked and I was pretty sure I had gotten the impression it did somewhere… :upside_down_face:

Yes I will backtrack on that, sorry  Although we don’t know if it is 100% working yet until Sweviver or someone comments or shows the upscaler in action. Hopefully we’ll get an update when the final cable shows up

how Long have you two been married
But No… @SweViver has not stated that he has tested the upscaler om the 8K X. But im sure he will and share his findings :slightly_smiling_face:

They better get it done before the backer upgrade program expires!
