Very positive 8K-X pre-release unboxing (MRTV)

Ok. @Toba when was that exactly? Before say December?

My experience with Pimax has been ok. I won’t say great, as I had issues with my cable and it ended up taking 2 months to get a replacement, but overall I can’t really complain. I’ve enjoyed my 5K+ for quite some time now, so much more than I ever did with my Oculus and Vive. Having the wide FOV is a total game changer, and combining that with higher resolution (8K+ & 8KX) is just going to be awesome.

you forgot
0:00 where he bashes pimax for being late all the time and warns users not to buy directly from pimax and that he probably won’t be getting his Pimax bonus this year. :stuck_out_tongue:

Mike also said that is ipd is too low and the headset is physically unusable for him. Which is why you haven’t once seen him use it.

It would be like me bitching about RiftS because my IPD is 70.

but as you said he also feels burned, but when you calm down and think about it… its pretty amazing. Rift from kickstarter to consumer product took 2 DK’s and 4 Years to complete.
and when they lauched it took another year to release touch controllers
I consider the 8k, 5k+ development kits compared to the Artisan and Visio , so in that respect
Pimax from KS to Consumer is about 2 years. And an additional year for controllers.

I think the worst problem with the suport its the lack of english undertanding. We say one thing and they understand other. They need to put people that understand and speak well…

Middle of December I think. Problem was resolved after Mathew got wind of it.

Okay folks lets bring this back on topic. We’re also talking improvements in support recently.

EDIT: Sorry @Heliosurge I replied further up the page before I read your post.

I would have posted in it and then I would have had to delete the post.

I love a few things about my Pimax, the main thing being the FOV.

But now after just one month of use I have 4 cracks with one being over 8cm long.

I can also only use 90hz as no other refresh rate works currently with the 5700XT. I have asked if Pimax is working on adding additional refresh rates for me to use and both Pimax accounts I have tagged on this forum have ignored me and Steve from Pimax has also ignored my email/ticket. And I just wanted this information to help me understand if I should sell my AMD card and replace it with an Nvidia card or if Pimax was intending to add these soon I would stick with AMD.

It is something they are working on. Team may have delays in responses due to CNY.

The difficulty one faces with Amd Gpu of late is it often takes time for new gpu architecture to gain strength.

Just look over vr features that are recently now supported on Amd Gpus. Or the fact my old r9 390 has better support than newer Amd Gpus.

GamerNexus asked Amd about plans to fix their drivers. Amd has done really well with Ryzen on the CPU front and they need to now demonstrate the same with GPU side.

There also seems to be a video memory leak issue with pi_server.exe I haven’t mentioned that yet because I like to prioritise issues and I figured they haven’t got it working completely yet, get it working first then optimise. But just sitting idle pi_server keeps using more vram, right now it is using almost one GB and my headset isn’t even switched on. If my headset was on, pi_server would climb to using 1.5 GB with nothing else open. I’ve worked out before I start any VR application I must restart the pi service to purge the memory. This also purges SteamVR at the same time which also seems to have a memory leak and I suspect it might be related. The two of them can get up to above 4GB with nothing else running.

Are you using the Alpha? If so, that might explain the crashes users are experiencing after an hour or so. I switched back to the prior PiTool and the crashes stopped.

This was however when the technologies were not yet developed the algorithms were not designed, the flaws were not addressed, kind of pioneering age. Basically no one knew in advance how to do it (correctly).

When Pimax started Kickstarter they had already released a consumer product - 4K.

No I rolled backed after only a short time when I realised it was crashing. I was one of the first people to mention 254 crashing if not the first.

Yeah but in the same vein, nobody knew (and maybe still don’t ) how to make a 170 fov headset. Let’s not forget that Pimax is breaking ground here as well.
