No go on the 1.1.92 anyway. I installed that version and it never finds my PiMax. Well, it says it finds it, but it never becomes operational. I think the ghosting is a hardware problem. They should concentrate on perfecting the 4k instead of working on some 8k version.
Truth they are indeed working on both. Ghosting i find is not that bad if you move your head naturally. Yes its still present. But can also be compensated by playing with Render settings.
Just as another user mentioned only adjust 1. There is Piplay render & steam Supersampling. If you adjust the piplay render leave steam @ default.
As for 1.1.92 it can be a dance to get it connected. One thing that improves connection in this old version is disable you inet connection til headset found then re enable.
New problem, I updated my NVidia drivers and now steam keeps tell me I am in Extended Mode. If I click enable direct, it restarts with the same message,
X:\Steam Install Location\Steam\config
Backup/Delete âsteamvr.vrsettingsâ file, perhaps this file has been modified to perform best with an Rift CV1.
You also may be the 1st on the forum that has an rebranded AUKEY 4K.
How is the SDE when compared to the CV1? It should be much better and not just âslightlyâ.
Hi tony, was it effective to change decoder inside Simple VR Player?
I have tried all the decoders in VR Player. Direct Show seems to work the best. Eventually, Pimax went back into direct mode. However, when it was in extended mode, I think the ghosting issue was greatly reduced. I went through another reinstall of the NVidia drivers, but could not recreate the situation. The Pimax was actually showing up in the NVidia control panel. I know extended mode isnât going to work for everything, but maybe it is the best option for video. How can I force the latest version of PiPlay back into extended mode?
I have deleted the steam vrsettings many times. The SDE on the CV1 is massive compared to the PiMax. It really kills the experience. Massive ghosting is almost as bad, but I prefer it over increased SDE. Also, the CV1 is a larger headset. I never installed the headphones on my Pimax, so the whole unit, rolled up, is about the size of a shoe. I am hoping to get this ghosting problem fixed.
If you want to change pimax4k to extended mode, select video mode.
And if you want to see the Windows desktop, just close the kodi. Thatâs it.
I donât want to use Kodi, so I need extended mode with the Pimax still able to launch Simple VR Player and Whirligig
Video mode will load kodi. Exit kodi(close)
Video mode still on.
Run the video player in windowed mode then drag to the right off screen (should now be visible in headset) close one eye click in window alt-enter (or other way) to full screen
OK, I will try that. Thanks
This didnât work. In video mode, SteamVR doesnât even recognize the headset is connected. The situation I had before was that the Pimax was in extended mode, SteamVR recognized the headset but warned me I was not in direct mode. I have tried disabling direct mode in Steam, but it doesnât seem to take effect.
Okay your trying to get extend mode in steam.
Try launching steamvr from steam (not the launcher inside piplay)
Pimax mode has a bunch of buildin modes
Video mode is a direct extend mode steamvr by the looks of it doesnât pick up the headset.
@PIMAX-Support is there a way to force pimax mode to choose its extend?
Yes, this is what I was doing. Seems like they have removed user control of the mode selection in the latest release of PiPlay. I saw in older version there were options for other modes. I can try 1.1.92 again, but I was having no success getting that version to detect the headset. Windows 10 would tell me it found the Pimax, but in PiPlay it stuck at searching and the headset itself had no image displayed.
Yeah it was one of the issues in 1.1.92. I found after @Sjef observed it seems to try & connect to headset & inline servers at the same time.
Disable inet run piplay & wait for headset to connect. Then enable inet. Niw firmware 251 for sure works in 1.1.92 nit sure about tge firmware i think 265? @lukeb that the piplay beta installs 1.2.85.
Yes. At least thatâs what happened when I installed 1.2.85.
No, the price and availabilty is FUBAR @ this moment because of the huge demand of GFX cards for cryptomining purposes.
Most GFX cards, if available, will be sold for +50-100 $ more than original retail price.
I have returned this headset. I might have been able to deal with some ghosting, but there was also a lot of blur, not sure what was causing it. Nothing I tried seemed to make a difference. A good 4K (2k per eye) headset should be possible, especially for video.
4k is higher than 2k per eye. You should have tried piplay 1.1.92 ghosting not as bad.
2k per eye = 1980 x 1080
Pimax 4k per eye = 1980 x 2160
I honstely donât understand why people complain about ghosting. Sure itâs there and you can easily see it but it doesnât disturb me that much. But to each their own, I hate SDE with a passion where others donât seem to care about the Vive or Oculus SDE.
Of course it would be awesome to have it ghosting free, Iâm really hoping Pimax can get their hands on 4k OLED panels for their 8k
