SteamVR Developer Tab (actual input resolution)

Hi there. My question was overlooked on the Kickstarter comments, so I figured I’d post it here:

Can you show us a screen shot of your SteamVR → Settings → Developer tab of the demo laptop? I’m specifically talking about what the values are (default and current) when you’re showing demos to people.

Screenshot of what I’d like to see here: Imgur: The magic of the Internet

SteamVR uses a 1.4x supersample value automatically. You will see in the screenshot the “Default” resolution is the Vive’s resolution multiplied by 1.4 to each 1080 x 1200 number. Does this occur with the Pimax 8K? Is 1.4 multiplied by the target 2560x1440(x2) or is the target resolution calculated with 1.4 multiplied already?

Seeing your screenshot would answer those questions. Thank you!

The screenshot will not likely help for what your looking for. pimax is using there own render & has their own supersampling multiplier.

@deletedpimaxrep1 @pimaxvr. Can you confirm the above? And post a pic on Piplay settings showing render setting & effect on input res?

Also if you could share your laptop specs as we only know the gpu?

Wouldn’t SteamVR still pick it up though? Does SteamVR pick up what the Rift’s resolution/supersampling is? If not, then I guess you’re right.

Yes it does pick up vive and Oculus… But they use steamvr render… Pimax use their own. So for render quality you just change the slider in piplay and turn steamvr one to 1.0

Trying to revisit this. Will the input signal of the 8K be multiplied by 1.4x, as SteamVR does internally? We’d be looking at a difference of 2.8x vs 1.45x supersampling of the Rift/Vive with/without that value being used.

PiMax uses their own render & have their rnder multiplier in Piplay settings

So I guess they have a manual render multiplier, but is there a BUILT IN multiplier? SteamVR does 1.4x automatically, you can’t change it. The manual slider is for multiplying in addition to that 1.4.

Default is 1.0 in piplay settings. Steam multiplier should only apply to steam renderer.

@deletedpimaxrep1 @bacon is this correct?

Do you have a 4K? Does Piplay show you what resolution you’re at with different settings?

I haven’t looked recently but unity chan demo shows renderer target when press spacebar
