If this isn’t a wake up call for Robin Chen then there is no hope for the company.
The Dream Air wasn’t made worse. Their proprietary ConcaveView optical stack and headset casing wasn’t reported being changed in anyway. In other words, the image clarity and form factor that was praised before remains the same.
Agreed, this seems like drama farming and very disappointing to see. I actually thought rather highly of Sebastian’s opinions untill this video. The thing that really stood out to me and why I’m convinced this is intentional drama farming for a YT vid was how he absolutely trashes the existing Pimax ringed controllers to frame the exclusion of the (non existent) ringless controllers in future purchases as a big deal. The existing ringed controllers are perfectly fine. They track well, are responsive and fit nice in the hand. Really not that big of a deal.
I’d like to give Sebastian and @Shazboticus the benefit of the doubt. I can only guess that this controversy is to induce a sorting or filtering within the audience themselves. Who knows? A really good head strap or set of controllers might actually be better than a Pimax headset! ![]()
Seriously though, had this content not reached me, I may not have had the opportunity to reflect on the principles of my investment with Pimax amongst those in agreement and disagreement. For that, I can only be thankful.
I get the impression that Seb is not trying to rock the boat but rather pointing out that it is OK for PiMax to change things, for whatever reason, but be totally up-front about WHY there is the need to change things. We are paying top dollar for this stuff, we are not children, we are discriminating against other brands/products by purchasing/supporting a PiMax product.
We can (probably) handle the disappointment if the change can be conveyed by PiMax provided that:
- it has a reason to exist
- the reason is legitimate
- it has a purpose or goal
- conditions changed that affect(ed) outcomes
- they’re doing it in the best interest of the PiMax customer base and/or PiMax itself
- it is honest or it was a mistake that is humbly owned by PiMax.
PiMax breaking any of the above with a lie, half-truth, or fib will generally result in backlash from the customer base. Do it too many times (like the pre-order/production/shipping cycle debacles) and don’t be too surprised if one day the backlash bites harder than ever - and serves you right!
The thing PiMax MUST remember is that a customer buys their product(s) 1, 2 or maybe 3 times and will likely never see them again. It might be a good idea to make sure that the experience of the customer in those interactions are top-notch because that is only 1 or 2 chances to make an impression - good or bad with consequences influencing (free$) word of mouth advertising, recommendations or anger.
Did you study marketing? If not then you’re a very smart person. This is exactly what Mr. Weng needs to hear. I saw that Sweviver made a joke in bad taste about Valve in one of his recent videos. Someone argued with him about customer service and he got angry. Another example of poor marketing - never argue with a customer. Something along the lines of every vocal complaint has many non-vocal complaints.
