Project Cars - Clipping at Edge of Lens

I noticed after switching to dsr, dirt rally wont let me change aa, it crashes. And I can go higher in Steam SS. Could be a steam update though. All i know is performance is great and it started st the time I happened to be messing with dsr.

Does the rift look better, even with Pimax in 2k? Are you using 1.1.92?

What multipliers do you use with DSR?

Higher than before? How high until the right lens goes blank?

At a push, yes, but would require 3 x SS, which would indeed hurt performance a lot, so i’m gonna give the pimax another chance

I use 1.78x. I think it goes blank at about the same, 1.3+, but my 1060 can’t go past 1.2 before games like Dirt become unplayable.

Lol, still yet to try DSR, what resolution does 1.78x give you? I can also confirm that custom resolutions dont work properly, which is a shame…

SteamVR doesn’t want to let me Disable Direct Mode. Can only get it through Kodi. Not sure the resolutions actually stick like they did on 1.1.92. Performance and image quality aren’t as good but I think you can get a good level by messing with Steam VR SS, and Pimax SS. I am trying high Pimax SS, low Steam VR (similar to how you can get good resolution, high performance on ED).

Edit: replied on the wrong thread. This was a reply to your other question.

Have you tried getting it into Extended Mode using Piplay? I’d be at a loss, because extended mode is mostly what i use it for

So does Pimax SS replace the 2k setting from 1.1.92? Was gonna update just to try and see if the image quality was better but seeing as you say the image quality is worse, which is the main factor behind using this headset in the first place for me…

Sounds like they need to hire some software engineers…

2K is definitely still there by default, and you can add Pimax SS.

The new version is definitely an improvement in many ways but yeah so far I haven’t managed to get decent image quality. I tried and got annoyed with it, will try again.

If it is 2k by default, and you can multiply that with SS, shouldn’t image quality be superior, what are Pimax playing at, lol…

Yeah I don’t know about the details but around here people were talking about the distortion method or something being responsible for an inferior image.

I have just messed around and got a good image/performance compromise, but it still isn’t as good as 1.1.92.
I am gonna just finish Solus Project in the new version, cos the PDA works better, then go back to 1.1.92.

What about compromising on performance completely and upping the SS, is it possible to get better image quality than on 1.1.92 with it’s 2k option?

I imagine it is, but you’d probably need a supercomputer. My 1060 isn’t up to it.

Someone mentioned somewhere that the 1.2.x versions seem to use async projection, and freak out a bit, at a higher framerate. So 55fps on new versions seems choppier than 45 on 1.1.92. Seems accurate to me.

This probably wont apply to extended mode would it, at least i don’t think it does. That is actually where i think this headset shines, and not actual direct VR apps, lol.

Does 1.2. install all of that additional crap (most of which isn’t required)

On 1.1.92, just thought i’d say that Piplay and Java are all i’ve left installed

and i removed the following

Visual C+ extended
Visual F
Visual J
Some more Visual C+ minimum

And full functionality remains

Also, installs Kodi and very sneakily MPC, which i already had. Just thought i’d throw that out there, as i find it annoyin when a package install lots of additional stuff without notifying, lol

I have tried the latest version of piplay and it is no where near as good as the 1.1.92 version… the 1.1.92 steamvr compositor it is using is defiantly better than the one the pimax devs are working on in 1.2.x. you get better fidelity and better framerates in the older version.

can you PLEASE just use the SteamVR version on 1.2.x with all the piplay whistles and bells - would make most of us happy!!. or at least fix the clipping issues on 1.1.92 version so those of us who wan to use that version for the steamvr compositor can do so without visual imperfections.

I agree wholeheartedly

@PIMAX-Support

do you have any comments please support? are you able to help with the 1.1.92 stable drivers - it works well with the steamvr compositor. but the clipping of the images is not good… i have a youtube video showing this happening. Elite Dangerous VR Planetary scan mission bug in Open Play using Pimax 4k - YouTube watch from 4min mark.

@PIMAX-Support @deletedpimaxrep1 BUMP!!!

still waiting for a reply on my post above for 17 days now!

cheers

Hi friend, appreciate your kind suggestion.

All things considered, Piplay version will push ahead rather than back to Piplay 1.1.92. But I still add this issue to our bug system and convey your voice to our engineers : )

Understandable but most people here agree with the suggestion. Maybe you can produce a better driver than 1.1.92, they have been improving a lot recently, but is has taken quite a while…
I’m happy to stay on 1.1.92 though, it just works. I don’t need the extras. I think the least you could do though is update it with nolo compatibilty if nothing else.

At least please consider bringing back the Steam renderer that was used in v1.1.92, everybody is waiting for that !
