It’s time to fix all this mess with the upgrades and bricking the headsets. We hope to see soon stable drivers and firmwares without problems. Thanks.
Even with the latest Pitool v273 and Firmware 299, I am still getting SteamVR crash ( addon-block).
But VR screen of PE home and that of Pimax home work fine before I run SteamVR.
Pitool v270 and FW_M298_EngineerTest are the only combination that work perfectly. Too bad I can not try new functions from later version of Pitools.
Pimax engineers should know what difference between the old and new Pitools make this error. What was that and why not fix it?
does all this DFU/guillemot business mean I cannot run my steeringwheel ™ and 5K+ together?
or just with fw updates?
Just so Pimax has more info.
My 8K X started blinking after updating to Pitoool 273 and Frimware 299.
Pitool 272 will auto-update to firmware 299 so reinstalled 271 and then could reflash to 298 which works fine.
I think the worst part is that Pitool doesn’t let you roll back. The forced update function should be removed and there should be a list of all previous Pitool/Firmware (Maybe have a link on Pitool) so people can actually roll back to what works for them. Not everybody keeps old versions on their PC and then those people will need to look for the ones they need and that’s a waste of time.
I mean, these things can happen yes, but solving it should be painless as possible.
Coming back around to the Smart Smoothing function:
It looks like the forced 1/2 and 1/3 options are effectively just frame-rate limiters. If you leave Smart Smoothing turned OFF and check one of the “Compulsory” options you’ll see that the game is limited to that FPS but that PiTool is not building any additional frames. I.E. Your refresh would be 90hz, but the game is only running at 45fps with zero faked frames. You can check this by going to a scene where the Smart Smoothing always causes warping or other graphical weirdness. None of that distortion happens if you are set to 1/2 refresh rate but Smart Smoothing is turned off. Surprisingly it’s not too terrible to use in that mode in some titles. The HMD is still refreshing at 90hz (for example), so latency isn’t bad at all.
Regardless, I still absolutely NEED a way to use Smart Smoothing properly again; it remains unusable with the 1/3 refresh rate option enabled. That just has to go. Please give us a way to use proper Motion Smoothing without it ever dropping to 1/3.
