Pimax official declarations on 200 degrees rendering solutions

We GUARANTEE that Pimax 8K has 200 degrees FOV and the games rendered 200 degrees, there is no stretching included.
Why the influencer can notice the “stretch”
The “distortion” would be solved with better IPD adjustment.
With 200FOV, Pimax 8K rendered much more content than Pimax 4K
To elaborate, we get two screenshots from SteamVR:
Pimax 4K:
Pimax 8K:

Obviously, 8K rendered much more content.
Why it looks stretched at the edge of the screenshot?
The experience in VR is very different from watching the above 2D screenshots. You may refer to Doc-ok’s analysis: Projection and Distortion in Wide-FoV HMDs | Doc-Ok.org
Someone believes SteamVR can only support an FOV that smaller than 180 degrees.
That is a wrong conclusion, there exist some solutions, you may refer to the following discussion:

We Pimax team has been working on the Wide FOV HMD for around 2 years, and we have our own solution to solve this issue.

Thanks for the information. Looking forward to the refined next HMD iteration. And if possible it would be great to have tested or doc or others make some rounds testing it.

Thanks for the info !

Thanks for the info, really appreciated that you guys are pro active on this thing. However, we only have the Tested reviewers who said they thought it was stretched. We need new reviews to confirm the issue is solved. Best would be to go back to Tested with the new prototype, fix the IPD issue and let them try again. Would that be possible ? It would take away every doubt we have.

This is positive interactions with the potential customers and most welcome.

could you do a video showing the image down the lens but not zoomed in so much that we cant see the full fov?

Does Valve know about your solution? Is it a hack? Will they help you get better access?

Getting Norm and Jeremy back to try the unit again would be great.

Maybe you could install the 8k software on one of the Tested.com machines, such as a desktop with a 1080 ti instead of the little laptop you usually use.

Let them test it on a machine that has the most headroom.

I guess Pimax dont want to install their software on other PC’s due to possible data/technology leak which is still under development.

Yeah, agreed that getting Tested to look at it again with the corrected IPD settings would be ideal. Their review was positive except for the perceived warped edges comment and getting them to put out a review that confirmed this was a non-issue would be huge for your sales. Thanks for being so active in addressing concerns!

Agreed. @PimaxVR @deletedpimaxrep1 can you guys go back to Tested with the new prototype that fixes the IPD problems ? And please take someone who speaks English very well. Most of the interview got lost because it was impossible to follow what was said.

If its for the purpose of a review, Pimax need not worry.

after making some lens deformations, a total horizontal fov of 180º can be confirmed, you must keep in mind that 200º are diagonals. It seems they are not exaggerating or stretching …

If you guys can fix the peripheral warp issue and then redo the demo with Tested, then I’ll certainly be willing to purchase the HMD. I think this is true for many people.

There next production unit is coming out in a couple weeks that would be a great time to show it around again.

a video in 1080p quality through the lenses on the steam vr loading screen, trying to go through the whole fov with all those reference lines as help, would kill several birds with one stone…

What about 180/360 sbs videos? Will it show correctly in peripheral (and not only)? This is not the game which can send different frames for different hmds. In videos frames are already filmed.
Videos which looks correctly on Oculus/Vive looks correctly on P4K too. But will it on P8K??
@deletedpimaxrep1

the quality of the videos is supposed to be almost identical to pimax 4k but without ghosting and better fps. Before I referred to a video in 1080p like this:

This is game! I’m talking about video files. Open youtube and search any 360° video.
I have both Oculus and Pimax 4K and vast majority of videos looks correctly on both. But some not - weird geometric distortions, giant/dwarf thing… I think this is because they were captured different way, for another hmds. And Pimax 8K will be very different from Oculus and P4K. But I might be wrong of course I’m noob at this things.

I’m asking about will videos on Pimax 8K looks absolutely the same as on Pimax 4K or not. In terms of distortions etc. Not about fov/ghosting/fps, don’t mix up please! I speak about geometric correctness.
@deletedpimaxrep1

I do not think there should be problems since it is something more related to the video player than the hmd itself, I usually use Simple VR Video Player, works through Steamvr so you do not have to worry about the compatibility, even with oculus. has a lot of configuration options and is compatible with many video formats. essentially it is like a game that play videos, in Steam there are several more of that type
