What is the recommended setting for Hidden Area Mask - should it be enabled, or disabled?

usually it should always be enabled.

I experienced the same decrease when using hidden mask while playing skyrimvr, so your not the only one. Now I leave it unchecked and yes it seems it doesn’t work correctly with that game for some reason.
edit; in other words it doesn’t give the performance boost you would expect.

Whats really weird for me is how the frame filling of the Smart Smoothing Algorithm works in the right eye panel. It looks like animated textures are waving around, when panning the hmd. As if some portions of the textures get calculated for filling and some don’t. Textures twist and turn. You can observe it very clearly when closing the left eye. Having both eyes open it just looks a little off, as if Parallel Projections is needed.

Exactly. I think @SweViver mentioned it already in one of his early Pimax test vids.

Is that with smoothing on in 103? Or just normal?

I hope we get a smoothing technique like steamvr smoothing where it doesn’t drop to 45 to smooth it out. I have no idea how steamvr does it but it doesn’t cut frames in half. Just fills in the little gaps here and there…and also the big gaps. It was really quite good.

Kevin just said on the VR Roundtable interview that the new version of PiTool (.106?) will be released “today or tomorrow… by the way”… :smiley:

Pre-ordered (very early - both first day and second day when the site was up again after the crash), but my address info (phone number) wasn’t filled out correctly, so it’s delayed… :wink:

I hope it’s still in UK, ready to be sent (or just sent) as the info has been corrected and confirmed by @anon74848233, but I’m afraid they might have sent it to someone else and I’ll have to wait for the next 5K+ batch.

I missed the kickstarter but have been following Pimax almost from the start from the side… :wink:

Ah. Makes sense. Probably the smarter route. I took the risk on the first day of Kickstarter (Early Bird 8K-X headset). Who knows when that will be here, but at least I have the 5K+ for now. It’s really solid as long as you’re cool with tweaking and understanding how to deal with minor issues, which you probably know by now.

In hindsigt, yes, but didn’t feel that way for a very, very long time untill I started reading about all the issues with especially the early units.

It happens with smoothing on. I didn’t test the modded setup without smoothing yet. For the most part, it’s just the grass mod “Veydosebrom” that acts this way. Smart smoothing works pretty fine with 25-30 FPS shown in FPSVR. I tested the 90Hz mode recently. Without any stutters i played for ~an hour. Its such a sharp and clear picture, and smooth, and seeing my GTX card always filled red with ~40ms frametime, blowing its ventilation song. I can’t believe its actually playable this way. Its just awesome.

It’s killing me to hold off on 103. But in the same breath I don’t want it if it’s not ready

May as well just wait for 106 at this point, since it will have been reviewed by GPU partners as well.
