I’m taking a guess here but it should be possible to disable the rocky planet but still have the VR Experience. And when you press play on a game both pitool and VRE can quit.
I was thinking about this because Marcin said it wasn’t possible to integrate his settings in the steam VR UI. But that does have virtual desktop. So it would also be cool to be able to enable a VR optimized skin on PiTool. So we can operate it via Steam UI Virtual Desktop.
The rocky planet is just an environment, and with one click you can change to others. As a test, I already added 2 other simple environments to chose from. A cloudy background or empty grey one. Its shown in the video also. So dont worry about the background, there will be many options.
The environment COULD be made for SteamVR SDK and libraries (i can remove the PimaxSDK and add SteamVR libraries in one day) but there is simply no pont I think, because many settings (PP/refreshrate/SmartSmoothing/FFR/DFR) needs to be applied before SteamVR starts.
The super high def is a nice idea, already in the to do list. As a showcase. Not only images but also videos and stuff.
Pimax VR Experience NEVER runs simultanously with SteamVR. When SteamVR is not runing, VR Experience is. When SteamVR starts, VR Experience closes. Its automatic. This is also required to run Unity with the Pimax SDK, you cant have SteamVR running at the same time.
I just wonder if you guys improved the performance of the Pimax home or if there is an option for just a blank room. Cause I usually turn Pimax Home off cause it takes up a bit of GPU power.
thanks. yeah thats the main reason. SteamVR already exists and its great. So does Revive in SteamVR, so basically you can launch all your games from SteamVR already anyway. But the whole point is that you want to be able to change PiTool settings, do SteamVR config changes and load profiles before SteamVR starts - or while its not running.
Yes, you can have a blank space. Thats already there in current alpha version im coding. It will be very simple to add new environments - at least in code. Takes me 5 minutes to add some other free environment.
Although im not sure if it will be possible to somehow load new VR environments as a end-user in the runtime itself, but maybe some skilled coder can help with that.
I’m mainly interested in saving performance although having an environment people can instantly swap without using Steam VR is awesome. I’m partly curious if you guys can do a virtual desktop interference far into the future without the need for Steam VR. That would massively save performance running the Pimax SDK.
I understand. What you should know though, is that as soon as you start SteamVR, or any game, the environment quits. It never runs in the background. Only PiTool does that.
Not sure about the virtual desktop, but I would say its not impossible. Let me dig into this. Im sure there is a simple way in Unity to bring the desktop in VR.
You mean demo vids and images?
That would be very cool but I meant the UI itself, the fonts and lines but also the environment. The rocky planet is so ugly textured that it hurts the potential wow factor
Ah. That makes sense. I originally thought you could evoke Pimax VR Experience while playing a game to change settings which would require it to be running in the background.
It would be great if there was something that completely replaces SteamVR so we didn’t need it and just Pimax software itself.
Is there a difference between ordering the 8KX by choosing backer plan D versus taking the $ 949,- option mentioned on PimaxNow. The price is the same!
Indeed. But I have to say, using 8KX and even more with Pitool RQ1.5, everything just looks ridiculously sharp.
I gotta admit I have done most of the coding work just using an 8K+ and soft strap, for an easy way to just hold the headset with one hand while testing small changes.
Now, sometimes I reminded myself to try the environment with 8KX and it was a bit mindblowing every time when it hit me how much sharper all the lines, text and everything is on the 8KX.
What Im trying to say is, even a very poor evironment can look really good, as long as its razor sharp
Are better suited to answer. I didn’t follow up a while ago but I remembered they said they backer plans stopped after a certain time. I might be wrong.
If the plan still exists on the website, then its still valid and you will get your stuff. I have not heard about the backer plans not being valid anymore.
As far as I know, the only plans that are not available anymore are the E and F with the controller upgrades.
@SweViver Is there a difference in delivery time between ordering plan D and the PimaxNow offer? At PimaxNow there was mentioned there were 500 pcs reserved for the $949,- offer.
