Hey all,
Does anyone know what kind of product the blue protection layer of the new pimax headset is?
I’m looking for someway to re-enforce my 204 series 5k before it starts to crack.

Unfortunately covering the material will interfere with tracking. It was stated in another post awhile ago that the RE edition is a completely different compound for the entire plastic not just a coating. The silicon skin with cutouts may be the only way to " cover it up".
You should consider the silicon sleeve if you have concerns.
PS: If you have a Backer Box coming you will be receiving one.
That sucks to hear. We’re stuck with these brittle plastic headsets until they fall apart I guess. I already have the silicon sleeve.
As that isn’t exactly an acceptable answer, I’m likely going use the sleeve as a masking template and then epoxy coat the plastic for re-enforcement.
Obviously thickness plays a role, but I’d look for an epoxy with strong optical transmission properties at infared wavelengths. Then you may not have to be so careful. I’d still be avoiding the holes if I could
using the sleeve as template sounds like a good idea, i was thinking of just glueing in permanently to the headset but your idea sounds less permanent.
I am not sure how much you are willing to spend but you can get the housing replaced with an RE by this company:

I am sure I have to skills to change over the housing or case or whatever it’s called. It wouldn’t be that difficult. Can’t cost Pimax much to post out a new housing to those who can do it themselves or can get someone to do it.
