PieMax opens restaurant that fails to deliver your meal and offers to sell you a different one while you wait

You are right, most Chinese people are not as humorous as others.

Chinese people are awesome at humor and I’ve had countless hours laughing with many friends in China but the humor usually can’t revolve around irony derived from English words.

It’s just a lot of jokes from English to Chinese don’t translate well because they often make big use of simile and irony.

VR Dizzy is " Satirical news from the alternate VR/AR industry", it’s not UploadVR, they are ironic about everyone, Oculus, Valve, HTC, and the fact that Pimax is here is good, very good, because Pimax has more problems in visibility than in reputation. You can only use irony if the subject is well known, otherwise it doesn’t work, so they’re on the right track.

It’s a satirical site. Like The Onion or the The Daily Mash.

Like Mmorselli says. It’s a good sign. Means Pimax are a big enough figure in the industry now to warrant a piece and assume the audience gets the references.

And that is what needs to happen.

That will help reduce product defects and subsequent returns for replacements. While I don’t like to wait unnecessarily, I definitely won’t be happy if my 8KX is defective.

I have to agree with Kevin. Chinese do have a nice sense of humor. Sometimes English Humor is very dry. For example checkout The Office (UK original version not to be confused with the US spin version)

This comedy is very dry.

MRTV is wrong. I would not buy a Artisan, the FOV is too small compared to the 5k+. Also MRTV should try using the IPD offset to dial out edge distortion in the 5k+. The issue with the 5k+ distortion is a software issue, Pimax could and should fix it.

The Artisan has a place in the market but the 5k+ is still a better headset (for the people who don’t have any issues, unfortunately I have issues and Pimax doesn’t seem to care). Even though the Artisan FOV is only slightly smaller than Normal in the 5k+, based on 120hz in the 5k+ which uses the same FOV, it is that small step that takes the Pimax from an immersive wide FOV experience to the boxed in restrictive FOV of other brands on the market. So for me the reason I wouldn’t consider an Artisan is the same reason I wouldn’t consider an Index. Yes it is wider than the Index as the Index is wider than a Reverb, but until a certain point is reached in FOV I don’t find it more immersive and based on the advertised spec of the Artisan matching the 5k+ in 120hz FOV, the Artisan is still too restrictive.

Then the jump to 8KX is far too much for most people. I’d argue the good reason for the 5k+ is the options (if they worked). If Pimax actually supported and fixed the 5k+ so it worked as advertised for everyone and fixed the distortion which I’ve demonstrated they can do if they wanted, the 5k+ is a great option for many people. With the 5k+ you can switch to 120hz mode if you feel you need it for a fast paced competitive game but in every other case you can have more immersive gaming with the wider FOV options. And for me these wider FOV options actually offer more to the games I use VR in which are sim racing games. The 5k+ already offers great clarity.

Of course on paper I would rather own an 8KX or even an 8K+ but the problem is these headsets are premium priced and Pimax won’t even support the product I already own. At this point I am tempted to take Pimax up on their offer of a protective sleeve for a honest review on Amazon, but they may not like my honest review. Sorry I’m just frustrated Pimax are ignoring my enquiries.

Anyway the main point I wanted to make is if Pimax got their act together and fixed their issues. The 5K+ is an important product in the current line up and I don’t think MRTV is right in trying to force his ideas that will affect others looking for a different experience.

And MRTV should learn how edge distortion can be dialled out in the 5K+ so he can instead try to pressure Pimax to fix that issue instead. Because the work around is not suitable for constant use but it does demonstrate where the issue is. Edge compression can be almost eliminated with the IPD offset setting.

How exactly does that work?

Load up the Pimax Virtual environment and look over at the sun lining up the edge of the sun with the edge of your FOV with only your outer eye and keeping your inner eye closed. Make sure you click on the IPD offset in Pitool so you can change the settings using the arrow keys. Now alternate holding the right and left arrow key to go from extreme to extreme and you will see the sun at the edge or your vision grow and shrink in size as you alternate. For me it starts to grow at smaller offsets than around -6 and from about -5.5 and up it starts to shrink. Considering you are looking through only one eye, this should not be happening. Now for me I can use this setting of about -6 with a very high manual IPD adjustment to achieve my actual IPD. And when I do this edge distortion in the Pimax is greatly reduced. But it isn’t a very good setting visually and I’m not recommending it for continued use.

As an experiment it shows how the edge compression is a software error in the 5k+. So they can fix it if they want.
