This is excellent news for Pimax. Oculus are working on VR Adoption. Vive Pro is expensive old tech and a Rift 2.0 was not announced.

Thats 50% of the big two out the way which will have a nice impact on Pimax sales. Also, those that buy an Oculus Quest may decide they want full PC powered VR and choose a Pimax HMD as long as it supports Oculus Store purchases. Win win.

In the oculus keynote chat there was plenty of people talking about the Pimax, I was surprised.

People are watching, and Pimax definitely has a chance to success this year if they kink out a few details, and goes full force with clever marketing.

Yeah I hope so.

I will probably get an Oculus Quest (for development, messing with which will replace my Rift) and a 5K+ for complete immersive glory and escape.

The VR space is looking great for early 2019 I must admit.

don’t get me wrong, the Oculus Quest is all that VR needs to go mass market, specially at that price, they nailed everything imho, I just need to see how the games actually look, but this is the first Standalone VR that I feel worth recommending.

Pimax is for high-end VR, Different Goals.

I wish they went with the 140° FOV of the half dome prototype.

Yeah, me too. They talked about that as a work in progress still. Although the Quest has same optics as the Go which are meant to be very good but it has a slightly higher resolution than the Go.

As for games. If it can stream from my PC / network without latency issues then that would be awesome. Not sure if that’s possible for VR though. These mobile devices can be quite powerful like the latest iPad can produce some amazing quality games at high res. Just my gut feeling is it will be more Commodore 64 than GTX 1060 lol. Hope not.

Just noticed @VoodooDE is at Oculus Connect 5 so no doubt he will translate his experience shooting zombies  (on youtube if you speak German or can stomach the auto translated subtitles)

Hi,
yes I tried the Oculus Quest.
Will do a test video when I’m back at home next week.

I tried ALVR on gearvr and was massively surprised at how well it worked. Be great to see one of the streaming solutions work with quest and utilise 6dof, I’m not expecting any fast pace roomscale success since there’s obviously higher latency than recommended but might be good enough for seated VR still.
